Will not go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/30/09
The cabin we stayed in had no heating, and in the evenings it was freezing cold. During the day we went out on day trips and made sure we left early in the morning, ensuring that the cabin was secure and both the patio door and main door were both locked. We returned (at 7.30 pm) after a full day out and the patio door had been left wide open by the staff who cleaned the room. All our belongings had been in the room with the patio door open all day! It was also freezing cold. I went to the reception to inform the Manager (wife) of the situation and have never been so patronized in my life - poor customer service. My Husband and I are world travelers and have stayed in a full range of different accommodation. I do not recommend staying at the Fort Ross Lodge.

So lovely!
By Circe, 08/23/09
Oh, we had the best time- and such a bargain too! A cozy cabin with a private jacuzzi- a view of the ocean. We bbq'd our dinner and drank champagne as the sun set and the stars came out. The other folks are right: There are deer on the grounds, and a variety of friendly jays and sparrows that will pick your patio clean of crumbs by lunchtime. Staff was VERY courteous and showed us how to light the grill wi/out lighter fluid. Restaurants in the area are fantastic and there are forest trails cool, covered in ferns and have peacocks running around! If you're looking for a wonderful getaway and you're pinching pennies, come here, stay midweek and get two nights for the price of one. These cabins are NOT sleek or modern, and that is part of the charm. We loved the folksy, comfortable feeling of this place- it didn't feel like an empty generic room, it was warm and inviting. We can't wait to come back in winter when we snuggle by the fireplace and drink cocoa in the Jacuzzi!

This is a very nice retreat
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/09
We just celebrated our 30th aniversery at the Lodge. The place is very clean and the managers are friendly. As I walked around the park like setting, I noticed that buildings have all been freshly painted. We will stay there again. For dinner, the Timber Cove Inn is excelent - just a few minutes up the road.

WHAT A DUMP
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/09/08
After reading the reviews my wife and I had mixed feelings about staying here, however some reviewers seemed entralled with this place. Our adivce do not listen to these people! This place is a DUMP! Stay Away! Perhaps in its day back in the 60's it was clean, perhaps even that was the last time it actually was. Was the musty smell part of the romance???? Oh no to mention the fantastic view, IF YOU CAN SEE IT! This place gave a feeling of a housing development rather than a lodge. Indeed the staff was rude beyond measure, as if bothered to be asked just about anything. Even complained when we used a credit card to pay the bill. Perhaps the Fort Ross Lodge charms those whom frequent trailer parks and primitive campgrounds, for all others with a higher class of taste find somewhere else to stay. We will NOT be back!

Love this place.
By Georgette, 03/06/08
We stayed here on a trip down highway one and absolutely fell in love with it. The decor is a little old but for the price it was a lovely place to stay.

Still relaxing-even with kids
By wesley pipes, 01/18/08
I loved the hot tubs outside on the patio and all the stars you can see at night. That by far was my favorite. We had a BBQ on our patio and coals are provided. There's a wood burning stove and we had full satellite t.v. You can see and hear the ocean from your room and there is plenty of space to walk around, explore, and feel like no one is around. Both my sons loved it, and that never happens with one being 14 and the other 4. Everyone we met during our 4 days there were friendly. It was the most relaxing time i've ever had on vacation since i've become a mom/wife. My whole family loved it!

absolutely wonderful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/13/08
I have been taken by this quaint and beautiful spot for years. Never have I had a bad experience. The rooms have a bit of a rustic feel to them, jacuzzi spa on patio and fresh, fresh ocean air, breath taking views as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone who really wants to get away from everything. It's not a five star, but personally, I would choose this location over many of the five stars I have stayed at. Really!

Rebuttal to Stay away
By kathy, 12/27/07
We've stayed at the lodge once or twice a year for the past 10 years or so. A frien of mine recommended it many years before that. We have always been treated with friendliness and our privacy has ALWAYS been respected. This is a place to come, relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and get very intimate by the fireplace. You couldn't ask for better.

Been going there for 15+ years
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/06/07
We discovered this little gem 15 years ago while on a trip up the coast and have been staying there twice a year ever since we found it. We are without children so we stay on 'The Hill' which is extremely serene and quiet. Staff is very nice and courteous and quick to react if there is any issue. There are a couple of restaurants within driving distance but we prefer to bring our own meals and bbq on the equipment they provide for each unit(charcoal included). Price is very reasonable for the area. Small store directly across the street with a deli where you can also rent video's/DVD's.

Wonderful !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/07
I read the other reviews AFTER we had made our reservations, but I'm happy to say we had a wonderful time. The management were very nice, the location is beautiful and we had no problems with critters. I look forward to the day we can return there.
