For all you budget travelers, The Gold Strike Hotel & Gambling Hall is located outside Las Vegas city and sports spacious and well decorated rooms with amenities for a comfortable stay. To many, this is a very old fashioned type of hotel managed by MGM Mirage, and is largely sought after as a gambling point by the older crowd. The hotel also has five restaurants ranging from snacks, cafe, Chinese to a steakhouse. The casino here is open 24 hours and is spread over 34,998 square feet of space. It has 850 gaming machines and ten tables for poker, blackjack, craps, roulette or other card games. An inexpensive place to stay, it is 30 minutes from everything in Las Vegas!

Wish we'd gone on to Vegas
By Laura, 01/17/10
My husband and I stopped here on the day before Christmas eve, driving up to Salt Lake City. We were originally going to stop in Vegas, but we were both so tired we pulled over at the Gold Strike. The cheapness of the rooms was certainly a bonus, but the rest of the visit was average. They charge for internet, which was a definite bummer (although with rooms that cheap, I guess they have to make money somehow). The room was ok. It appeared to be clean, although I can't say the bed was terribly comfortable. The shower on the other hand had almost no water pressure. I don't know if that was an issue with the room, the hotel, or just the time of year, but I could hardly rinse off the soap. I wish we had continued on to Vegas and just stayed somewhere near there. I hear Southpoint has cheap rooms farther down the strip.

New meaning to the word "dive"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/09
We stayed at a lot of cheap and sketchy places during a 12 day camping / surfing / climbing trip to Nevada and CA. This was the worst. The carpet was thick with grime, the ceiling tiles had water damage, you could see a difference in color where the carpet wasn't cleaned (like in the corners). We were both so grossed out by the floor that we wore our flip-flops in the room and in the shower. Wasn't worth the 30 bucks even though it was obviously cheap. Might have been the worst dive I've been in. Yuck.

terrible service
By apple valley ca, 06/06/08
I'm a truck driver and in Vegas a couple times a week. Tried stopping a Gold Strike for a change and will never stop there again. Service was terrible and machines were very tight. Every machine I played (quite a few) had no money in them when I wanted to cash out. The same happened to other people around me and we had a very hard time getting a slot attendant. I think there was only one attendant for the entire casino! They have no "ticket in/out" machines.

Perfect rest spot before Kanab,UT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/07
From San Diego, we always like to stop in Jean on our way to my brother's home in Kanab, UT. Ten hours is a long drive, and although we could drive all the way through, it is easier on my mother (86 years old) to make this stop in between. Plus the nickle and dollar slots are fun! Thanks, Becky Stutzmann

We love it
By Leighanne D, 07/13/07
We have stayed there quite a few times. We have been treated well and had clean rooms. They have a nice staff and good food also. Even when we are headed for Vegas this place is always a stop for us either going or coming. We would recomend it to others. It's not the Ritz but then you're also not paying the high prices. The casino is fun too.

Bed Bugs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/22/07
Was working in the area, had to change rooms TWICE because of getting bed bug bites! Housekeeping very lax!

Needs updating!
By Dustin, 05/07/07
While I can't argue against the low cost of the rooms, it leaves much to be desired as a comfortable place to stay. We just stayed the night, so we weren't there long...we just needed a place to crash for the night before continuing on our journey. Our room was not quite horrible (I say this only because we didn't catch any diseases...that we know of). We could feel the subfloor flexing and squeaking as we walked around on it. The shag carpet looked as though it was from the 70's (although I presume it's not quite that old) and the hair in the shower didn't instill confidence in the over-all cleanliness. Also, the shower head is installed very low; I'm 5'8" and was having to squat to get my hair wet...I would have had to be limbo champion to be able to bend over backwards enough to rinse my hair. It appears the hotel across I-15 is being torn down and I'm guessing re-built...I hope they have the same plans with The Gold Strike once they finish the other one.

Our Anniversary Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/12/07
My husband and I stopped at the Gold Strike Casino on our way home from Las Vegas. We had only planned to stay for a few hours, however, we met both Carlee and Ann as we signed up for our club cards. The service and friendliness of these two individuals will stay with us forever. They both made our 22nd Wedding Anniversary so special! We will never forget! We have been going to Las Vegas for many, many years but after this trip we will never stay any where else. The room was wonderful, the employees were awesome, and we sure had a great time in the Casino! Thank you, Frank and Michelle

Good for the price and availability!
By Cecelia, 11/04/06
We were able to get a room on short notice and not pay a whole lot like the hotels in Vegas charge. Friendly front desk personnel willing to help.
