A nice splurge, but beware

This was the one planned splurge in our vacation. We've always wanted to stay in a castle. It is a beautiful place. The room we started in was gorgeous and large. The bathtub was big enough for two. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and helpfull, for the most part. Breakfast was lovely, but not included in the price. The grounds were beautiful. When we came in, we felt that the room was a bit warm and mentioned it to the bell boy. We opened the windows and got ready for dinner. The dinner was lovely and romantic, with a live piano player and then we played a game of chess in the lounge. On our return, we realized that the bed turning service had closed the windows again. Now this room was so hot, that after a couple of glasses of wine and a long, large meal, I was having difficulty breathing. They finally offered to move us to a different room, after realizing the thermostat was broken, and one of the two fans they brought into the room wasn't working. This was almost midnight. Unfortunately, we were downgraded (!) to a room on the ground floor, with no windows in the bathroom, wall paper peeling, which ended up being just as hot as the first one! Yes, I am aware that things do happen in an old castle, and the person kept apologizing, and as much as I felt bad for complaining, in the end, a person needs to be comfortable. I also feel that, for the amount of money that they charge, they could afford to keep the utilities up-to-date. In all, we tried to make the best of it. I just wish we had gotten there earlier in the day to be able to enjoy the grounds a bit more and have dinner earlier. Do not stay in the "Brown" room.
