Very nice, but a little too fancy for regular people...
My seventy-three year old mother and I stayed for three-nights at the Holiday Inn Rapid City-Rushmore Plaza starting on Saturday, July 29th, 2006. When we arrived at the hotel, we were very impressed with the lobby area and the waterfall. The room we were eventually given was nice and comfortable and very large, with three pillows per bed, a clock radio, a comfy chair, a desk and chair, a round table, and a large (fifty-plus channel) television in a cabinet with remote, as well as a beautiful view of downtown Rapid City and a park.
The medium-sized bathroom was functional and relatively clean, with three sets of towels, a hairdryer, and one bottle of shampoo. However, while the room was spotless, the bathroom fan was surprisingly quite filthy for such a posh hotel. Also, we found that the glass containers were only rinsed and not cleaned, as I could still taste the Listerine I used from the night before.
I made use of the Business Center downstairs, and was able to access the Internet through one of the computers, as the other one did not work. We found it strange that such a big hotel would only have two elevators, and we found that they were very slow and we always had to wait a long time to use them.
We rated this hotel as the second best on our trip, but we still felt uncomfortable staying there. It was just too "high class" for us, and we seemed "out of place" at the hotel.
