31 reviews for Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite, Fish Camp
Great, great, great for kids in the Winter!
By missy s, 01/07/10
I read some reviews before we went here and was wary about the place. However, once I got there I realized that it is not so perfect if you are looking for a fancy hotel, but wonderful if you want a pretty nice hotel that's great for kids. We have two kids (ages 2 and 4) and this place was great for them because after a day in the park or a day sledding, we can drive down to Oakhurst, get pizza, be back at the hotel by 5 PM and hang out at the hotel indoor pool for the rest of the night. There are some things that I would have wanted in a perfect world: quieter room neighbors (heard TV and some loud teens); not so many nickle and dime charges (WiFi was 10/day) and a 28$ sandwich at the deli in the lobby. Food was expensive, but the free breakfast that came with our delux room was terrific and kids under 3 eat free at that buffet. In the summer, I'd probably stay in the Park in the camps, but for Winter, I thought being outside the park was just fine because we could sled in Fish Camp (forgot the name but we went up to a meadow and it was wonderful) and we could drive to Oakhurst in twenty minutes. In the summer there is more for the kids to stay busy with inside the park, but for Winter and visiting the snow this is a wonderful, wonderful place to stay if you have kids.

Will go back
By Peter, 10/23/09
Took and adventure without any hotel planning to Yosemite. Shocked at Ahwanhee prices (435? bite me) so we took to the road. Found Tenaya Lodge. They had rooms. Great rate. I see rants about how expensive and inconvenient it is but, it is the only affordable thing going within 45 minutes of the valley. Negotiate a better rate instead of settling for the internet price. Next opportunity for a motel is another 30 plus minutes away, maybe more. But those further away places are not nicer amenity hotels. A place like this is selected due to the balance of value at a slight distance from the park. Had a very pleasant meal. The bartender helped with a wine selection, a good bartender! Later, a waiter helped with meal selection advising against one of our choices as he though we would not be satisfied with it. That is what I value in wait staff, honesty and knowing that they are the one serving the food. Offer a recommendation, maybe steer someone away from a marginal dish and mostly explain why to let the diner decide. Our meals were excellent. Crab cake appetizer and fish and chips. The room was a slightly better than average per diem level hotel room. Clean and everything worked. No compliants at all

Perfect lodge
By Wendy, 02/21/09
My kids and I just spent ski week at Tenaya. We stayed for 3 nights in the lodge's deluxe room. The overall experience was excellent. The price of the room was very reasonable, and you get a lot for your money. If your kids don't ski, but want to enjoy some winter fun, this is the place to go. The lodge has ammenities such as an indoor pool and spa, an arcade, an ice rink, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, and a great sledding hill out back with chairs and a bonfire for parents. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very comfortable with free cable, and movies, wifi, and Nintendo Game Cube for a small fee. The restaurants are good with reasonable prices. Badger Pass is about a 45-minute drive, and Yosemite Valley about an hour and a half drive. Overall, an excellent experience at very reasonable prices. We will be back!

Not worth price/rating
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/24/08
This is a very expensive hotel for an average/poor experience. The pipe under our sink came undone the first day & water poured onto the floor. We reported this 3 times since the trap would come undone for no apparent reason. It was "repaired" 3 times. The last time worked when a metal band was used to hold the pipe up so it would not disconnect. No apologies given. When reported to the front desk they acted as though we were a bother. We just wanted the problem fixed before the next occupant had to go through what we had. I had to physically walk down to the front desk to report the leak since our phone would not connect to them. Also, check your bill carefully. A charge we did not make was added on the morning we were leaving. It was not listed on our early morning check out sheet which was slipped under our door. Luckily we did check our bill before paying. While waiting to have our bill corrected, two other individuals were trying to have their bills fixed. Not worth almost $400 per night. For that you could stay within Yosemite park.

Good place for families!
By , 04/11/08
Booked the hotel over the Internet, after reading some good reviews. The whole family had a pleasant stay. The service was friendly and the room was adequate. The location is little inconvenient if you want to spend more time at Yosemite as it is about an hours drive away from the valley. The pool was a little overcrowded. My son felt the Arcade games were a little bit expensive. We had dinner at the restaurant one night. The food was pretty good. Wish they offered free wireless internet like most hotels do nowadays.

Overrated
By aletta, 03/23/08
After 6 years of just day visits we eventually went to Tenaya March 2008. While the rooms were comfortable, the location wonderful - I am very glad that I did not have to pay the "normal" price of allmost $395 per night. The restaurants got poor ratings on other sites and I did not want to believe it but let me tell you it is substandard and very expensive for what you get. The best thing in the hotel is the swimming pool. This hotel is very overrated. we would not go back again - rather use cheaper accomodation that abound in the region with better food and just as pretty.

Poor service. Not worth of 4 stars by all measure
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/07
Like the other posting, the only thing impressed us is the entrance and the lobby scene. Immediately entering the hotel, what bothered me most was the cold face from the receptionist, and not so helpful conceirge (although they seem to be proud of it as its website keeps saying " contact our ceocerige for program arragnement") Just a few examples, prior to our arrival, I briefly exchange the emails with the concerige and asked for reserving the Thanksgiving dinner but upon our arrival, there is nothing ordered of course and the dinners were completely booked. The other thing was, we also reserved kids club activities posting on their web, only to know that this activity is not regular, and they will notify us whether this will happen 24 hs in advance (or at least the night before?). Well, at the time I thought this was not good but at least acceptable. Then you know what- we got the notice few minutes before the club started. The lady said, " The club will start in a few minutes. Please make a decision. Anyway, we got a waiting list here if you decide not coming." At the first night, we found a mouse running in our room. I called the front desk, and she said "oh, This is not unusual. You are in the forest. But, we can send our engineer over if you would like to." As if she is doing us a favor. Sorry at this moment, I really have less positive thing to recomment Tenaya Lodge -- The Thanksgiving week turned out to be a disaster with Tenaya Lodge. If you're only staying here for the easy access to Southern part of Yosemite, then it's probably fine.Their rooms are reasonably clean, and the food are ok. (the breakfast buffet has about 30 min wait time around 9 am. though) However, I would not recommend anyone to stay with it if it was drawn by their seemingly fun activity program. As it turned out being ineffective due to the poor management.
