no room at playa grande
By s, 11/21/09
After a long day of traveling and canceled flights it was a relief to arrive at the resort. This relief was short lived as we were quickly informed at the check in desk that they had over booked and there was no room for us. How could this be??? We had a confirmation letter. After being informed that there was no manager on duty to help us we were sent to their "brother" resort solmar. We were assured that we would be "well compensated" for our trouble the next day. We spent the night in the other resort where we were given a smaller unit with mutiple things broken. When we returned the next day to Playa Grande we were told that they would giive us the model room as soon as they were done showing it for the day!!! That meant the room was open the night we arrived. Rather than making the guests happy the priority was on selling more time share. When asked about this compensation they promised we got a story about being allowed to use the model room!!! We will never return. What a nightmare.

Indifferent
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/02/09
We are new timeshare owners of the Grand Solmar at Lands End and in the meantime while that is being built, we are given construction weeks to use at the playa grande, so for the time being we are "owners' at the Playa grande, while esthetically this place is more than beautiful, the service is decent at best and the prices of food for what you get i found to be absolutely ridiculous along with the excess charges incurred for a minor thing you may want to do while you are at the hotel. I did not find this place worth the time or money that was spent in staying their while our place is being built, and if you have a budget while on vacation be leary of staying here as pricing is VERY high at this resort.

platinum owner
By RICH SRSEN, 09/15/09
Playa Grande is everything you want in a resort and spa.The employees are always friendly and helpful. The grounds are always immaculate and the pools are gorgeous even at night. We are in awe every time we arrive there which is going on six years. Definately recommend Platinum so you can go practically anytime of year and you can stay anywhere in the resort that you want.We prefer The Ridge.Once you stay here you won't want to leave.

Best

I love this resort. The staff are always very friendly and very helpful. My family has a timeshare here. 2 years ago we went on the wrong week and they still let us use our timeshare and put us up in an even nicer room. I love it and cannot wait to go again in November.

Playa Grande: The best of two worlds
By , 06/01/09
When you stay at Playa Grande you have the best of two worlds. Because of its location, you are secluded from the town and its delightful frenziness. However, if you want to participate in the fun, you only have to go around the ridge and voila! You are now in town and can visit the restaurants, stores, and marina. The staff is the greatest! We have owned now for 5 years and we're part of the Playa Grande family. As far as the timeshare presentations, this is part of the experience, so be prepared. This is how some of the people make their living. If you know this ahead of time, perhaps you won't let this spoil your fun.

Escape to Paradise
By Chicago Lisa, 04/17/09
Playe Grande is just a beautiful as it looks in the pictures. The views, pools, restaurants are great. You have many pools to chose from. There's even an adults only pool which was a great getaway from the other pools which had a few kids and some rowdy spring breakers at the bar pool. The views from the balconies, we had two, was breathtaking. The sounds of the waves crashing against the shore was so unbelievable and relaxing. The bell hops were like old friends greeting us as we left and welcoming us back by our names. The wait staff is phenomenal in making sure you're happy with your order. Kudos to Tomas, a manager at the Calima, who made sure my sister and I were able to get in a lite snack (huge plate of steak nachos) even after the Calima was closed for the day. He suggested we enjoy the Pirate's Dinner which included a show. The show was great with the singer and dancers, but I was a bit disappointed that "Pirates" weren't the big highlight. One thing that can be improved with the buffet line with this dinner is making sure the staff understands what shellfish are since some people, me especially, are allegric to shellfish. I asked one of the chefs if there were shellfish in the soup and he said just fish. Mussels are a shellfish and when another guest spooned one into his bowl, I passed on it. If the staff can't help, then maybe put labels on the dishes so guests know what is in the dish. Playe Grande's location is so close to the marina, literally right down the hill, 5 minutes away. There is also an Art Market with many traditional Mexican souvenirs right there. Shopping is available along the marina from individuals setting up shop along the walk. A few blocks away is where you will find more shopping. If you get thirsty along the way, there are plenty of restaurants to get a beer, margarita, etc. Panchos is a great place for traditional Mexican food and is reasonably prices. We had breakfast for under $15 with tip. Make sure you stop by Cabo Wabo for their signature drinks. You will 'wobble' after a few. One fair warning before you go, especially if its your 1st time, Cabo's airport is unbelievable--once you get through customs, you are attacked by the "timeshare Hounds." If you can book your own transportation prior to leaving do so, otherwise, be prepared to hang onto your luggage and kids.

This has become our annual vacation
By Betty1957, 02/07/09
We went Jan 04 and said we weren't going to buy another time share as we all ready had one and exchanged for that vaca. Walked the property and enjoyed the 80 degree weather in January and said "I can do this every year until the day I die." The staff is very friendly and property is always well maintained and clean. Great food and drinks at restaurants on location and great little market. We walk into town along the marina every night for dinner which has improved every year. The best part is whale watching on the pristine beach of the Pacific Ocean right next to the pool. Best vacation spot ever!

Bought last year
By Janet, 10/16/08
The only thing that I do not like about my timeshare here is that you cannot swim at this beach, otherwise it is probably less hectic here than the resorts on Medano Beach area. Wonderful spa and good food.
