No late checkout
This was a standard hotel with standard amenities, except one. They wouldn't allow a late checkout, as all hotels should and most do. We hadn't originally planned on checking out late, but factors beyond our control mandated that we needed to. We only wanted to extend the checkout time to 3 PM, but were told no, even though we'd put a lot of money into their coffers by staying for five nights. I called the main Best Western customer service number to see if I could make any progress but was told that each Best Western is individually owned and sets its own policies. While there are positives to that mode of doing business, it seriously jeopardizes the standards of the whole chain when there are no standards in place that ensure consistent quality across the board.
It was not a terrible experience by any means--just disappointing.
So, I would say that if you must stay here, call ahead first to ask about the late checkout policy. I usually don't need a late checkout, but it is always good to have a reasonable late checkout policy in place in case the need arises. Perhaps calling ahead at all accommodations to check on checkout would be a good idea.
Happy travels
