A decent hotel with a few minor issues
My boyfriend and I chose to stay at this hotel due to its proximity to Cedar Point and its relative affordability. The hotel was recently changed to Hometown Inn from a Microtel. The outward appearance of the hotel is lovely and the parking lot was easy to access. The staff appeared friendly and the pool was open 24 hours and had a decent hot tub. There was no air conditioning on in the hotel other than in the individual rooms. I don't know if this was due to a breakdown or the choice of hotel management.
The room was not the best aspect of the stay. It appeared that it had recently been converted to a non-smoking room from a smoking room and therefore had a slight stale smoke odor. It wasn't bad enough to deter us from staying in the room, however, as it was only noticeable when walking in from the hallway. The room was small, but equipped with a single-service coffee maker and a hair dryer. We found 3 spiders in the bathroom upon entry and one bug on the bedspread, which may be due to the air conditioning being left off in the room before we arrived. We took care of the spiders and the tiny bug and didn't see any more critters for the rest of the night or the following morning, leading us to believe that the bugs were a coincidence and not because of the state of the hotel.
We did notice that the mirror in our bathroom had not been washed properly when drawings were revealed in the foggy mirror during my boyfriend's shower. We were also wary of the vent above the shower that was no longer in use as a fan but was covered with a ripped piece of foil. We made jokes about hidden cameras;) The bed looked well-kept but was very uncomfortable. Every half hour or so, a train came by our window and stirred us.
The breakfast the next morning was decent for a trip to Cedar Point. It included oatmeal, muffins, bagels, juice, cereal, milk, and coffee. The staff at the desk provided us with pepsi pop cans that could be redeemed for $7 off fun day passes at CP. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant.
Overall, I would stay here again for a decent price (Less than $100) but would not pay more. Friendly staff cannot make up for a bad night's sleep.
