No chance of a repeat stay at this hotel

My husband and I wanted to treat our children to a brief get-away after months of stressful rebuilding following Hurricane Katrina. We chose this hotel because it was conveniently located near the sites we planned to visit (the Martin Luther King National Historic Center, World of Coca-Cola, Underground Atlanta) and we generally have had good experiences with Holiday Inn hotels in the past. Room service was not great. One evening we waited 2 1/2 hours for our meal to be delivered (after being told that it would take 30 minutes). Once it arrived, items were missing and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for the rest of our meal (try explaining to three hyperactive, hungry children under age 10 that they had to wait for their food!). The following evening we ordered 2 beverages that we never received. Also, there is a $15 per night parking fee for guests staying at the hotel. However, visitors who were attending functions at the hotel (and were not required to pay the parking fee) gobbled up all of the parking spaces. We drove around for quite some time before finally locating a space, only after someone else had pulled out. Complaints to the front desk were basically ignored. The shuttle drivers were unhelpful and unfriendly. The one highlight: the complimentary breakfast which was very good, served by a friendly staff. Despite our disappointment with this hotel, we had a good time touring downtown Atlanta and plan to return. Needless to say, we will not be staying at this hotel.
