Regency Inn & Suites St. Augustine, St Augustine Beach

We spent one evening in this hotel in April 2010. It is convenient to the beach, the pier and reasonably close to historic downtown St. Augustine. That is where the good experience ends. Prescription medication was left in our room; we contacted the staff within a few hours of leaving and they had the item in their hand. We spent the next 2 weeks contacting the hotel staff. Initially we were assured the item would be sent to us via UPS. Then the story changed. The manager avoided our phone calls on numerous occasions; we had to wait until after 11:00pm to catch her on duty. Once we finally were able to speak to the manager we were told it wasn't their problem it was left behind. We were told they dropped it off at UPS a week ago; however, UPS has no record of it (we've talked with UPS) and the hotel does not have a shipping receipt. When we asked for the shipping receipt number we were told it wasn't their responsibility to get one or keep it. What was left behind was not a pair of sunglasses or a bathing suit...it was prescription medication. The attitude of the owner and manager was deplorable and shameful. There was no desire to assist a customer or simply to be a nice person and do the right thing. Imagine their attitude if there was a big problem.

We arrived in what we dubbed 'a monsoon' and started looking for a hotel with an indoor pool despite being on Florida's coast. Found it at Regency! The hotel, while not perfect, was in good repair and clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and knew the area quite well so they could tell us where to find the best food, shopping, and indoor touristy type things to entertain us while we waited out the 'monsoon." We had a coupon for $45 a night so we didnt' expect much, just a place to sleep. The room was very clean but had a funny odor something akin to bleach but I'd rather smell a hint of bleach than cigarette smoke or just old wet musty carpet. Otherwise it was fine for our purpose. Breakfast was okay, your standard fare of cereal and pastries, but then we usually don't eat breakfast so if you're a big hearty breakfast type person then you're going to be disappointed. Once the rain let up ( 2 days later) we had access to the beach and fishing pier directly across the street. There was a weekly street vendor/fair/farmer's market/art show also across the street on Wednesdays. It was worth the money just for the indoor pool that kept us sane with two bored 'tween' agers

The hotel price was good and the rooms were clean. I would stay again if they would hire better staff. The first time I was there the lady upfront said we could have excess to the pool 24 hours as long as we were not loud. So my friends and I went down there at 1030 and the guy upfront starting yelling at us saying we were not allowed. I told them what I was told and I got mad and left. The guy followed me and bf outside asking what room we were in and telling us he was calling cops b/c our language. We told him we wanted to speak to the manager and he grap his "privates" and sd "this is my manager" shacking it at us. They really need to hire better people.
