We loved this hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/02/08
This hotel is either newly built, or recently refurbished. It is reasonably priced with great views of Manhattan and the waterfront. It is very clean, with comfortable beds, in a very nice area of Jersey City with nice restaurants and grocery stores a short walk away. We are very accustomed to staying in upper end hotels, and this one definitely satisfied us. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly as well. The PATH train into lower Manhattan (World Trade Center) was behind the hotel, and the trip to Manhattan only about 3 minutes. Parking at this hotel is free, unlike hotels in Manhattan. We saved on breakfast each day because we could cook in our own kitchen. We found this hotel very welcoming to come back to after a hectic day in the city because the area was very guiet and peaceful even in June when we were there. The only negative we could think of was each trip to Manhattan cost $1.75 per person each way so you needed to plan your day in advance. The subway passes in Manhattan do not work on the PATH train. But the other cost savings made it well worth it in the long run.

Hotel is clean, front desk staff very nice and helpful. 5 minute walk to subway which is 1 stop away from WTC- free coffe in room - enough for entire stay - also free microwave popcorn! I will stay here again.

Nice Chain & Rooms / Evidence of Cost-Cutting
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/07
I have stayed at the Jersey City Candlewood a couple times. The first time I encountered ants in my first floor room. This was during the summer. They didnt move me. They stated that someone would come to look at the ants (in the bathroom) sometime that day. They persisted thruout the weekend. During my return in September I have encountered two major issues with the place. 1. They have what may be the slowest high-speed internet I've ever encountered at a hotel. And it cannot be excused by bad wireless connectivity because it is wired right from the wall. I've stayed for 3 weeks and reported this and nothing has changed. Shame. 2. The temperature control units have a mind of thier own. You cannot simply set them to a temperature and expect it to get there. Also, their cupboard shop never has toothpaste left and they dont offer any at the front desk. Bad. With all that said. Jersey City Candlewood meets my needs the best by offering extended stay rates close to NYC (the path train is about 5 min walk way, WTC one stop). Also the units have ful lrefrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, stoves, etc etc etc. I love the rooms. Without the evident cost cutting these places could be great.

Pathetic front desk
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/22/07
Rude reception staff. Had to call them 25times + for the details of a bill. Will advice not to stay here - despite the hotel being otherwise OK.

Great Location - Great Price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/06/07
I stayed here for two nights and was delighted. Friendly staff - helpful in finding local places to shop and eat. Great views of New York City - and just a short PATH ride into the city. There is even a mall a few blocks away in case you need to get some last minute items that you forgot to pack.

Great location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/07/07
The suite was clean and the desk personnel were very helpful and informative. The suites are close to a PATH station which makes a trip to New York easy and affordable.

TERRIBLE HOTEL ROOM!! RUDE AND UNHELPFUL STAFF!! NO ETHICS OF BUSINESS!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/06/07
This hotel is one of the most terrible hotel i stayed in. Hotel staff was not friendly at all. I stayed in room number 416 and bathroom tub did not drain. When i came back to hotel in evening after spending long day in NYC. I found that bath tub has drainage block problem and there was no way i could have taken bath in there. When i contacted hotel staff about this problem they told me that they will get back to me in 10 mins. I called them again after about 20 mins. Then they again said same thing. After about an hour i went down to lobby and they told me that they can not help me with this. They told me to fix the bath tub drain problem myself!!! Finally they gave me a key to broken room where i and my wife had to take all my towels, and other cloths and take bath and come back to my room again. Till this point it was bad but it even went worse. When I asked them that they did not have this room ready, they can not charge me full room rent. They told me that because priceline does not allow refund they can not do. In lobby one staff (Clair) told me that they are going to give me 2000 Candellwood priority club points which are worth about $400. THis was total lie and deciving when i checked on their website it was worth nothing. Infact they give that many points anyway for signing up. I WILL NEVER EVER STAY IN CANDELLWOOD SUITS AGAIN... THEY HAVE NO ETHICS.. STAFF IS RUDE and HOTEL ROOM DOES NOT HAVE PROPER SERVICES...

Rude staff and questionnable billing practices
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/07
During our stay the front desk made 3 additional authorizations on the credit card without providing any explanation for the same. This caused the credit on the card to go negative and left me looking for other means to finance myself. When we asked the front desk as to why this has happened, they were impolite and told us that they can do nothing about it! There are a number of good hotels around this place. I would advise you to steer clear of this hotel.

Bad customer service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/07
Location was great, but front desk customer service was horrible. They were not helpful, very rude and had an attitude the two days I stayed there. Hotel charges $1.00 for a pack of coffee which should come with your room. I would not recommend for anyone to stay here, I know I won’t. I would prefer to stay away from the city for better customer service. They should wipe out the whole staff or send everyone of them to customer service training.
