Riu Yucatan All-Inclusive, Playa del Carmen

The hotel is just simply a dump. Food is terrible. The drinks are terrible. The ice makers do not work. The hot tubs do not work. The place smells. The beds are terrible. They stock the rooms with one beer at a time. I would say this is a solid 2 star hotel. Anyone who says otherwise needs to have their head checked.

i had never been to mexico ,went with my wife , my wee lass at 8 and my 2 nieces both just over 20 ,the riu yucatan was excellent ,lots of choice for food,drink and entertainment ,pools great ,sea and sand amazing, a big mention to the entertainment team ,god do they work hard , they are very tallented and always made you feel welcome and relaxed, shows in the evening were great , from reception to bar staff they were all very friendly and helpfull, reviews say the beds were hard , i say they were perfect for us and were joe average weight wise, got a great night sleep on them , i will admit there seems to be a not so great smell coming from where you pick up your towels from , i think there may be a drainage issue there but it seems worse in the morning ,not late on in the evening, apart from that ,this will not stop me from going back we all had a magic time and wish all the riu staff all the best and thank you for putting up with us lol, could talk about this for a long time but i wont ,go and see for your self ,honest you'll love it ....yeh.

Beach was very nice, but very crowded. Get there early in order to get a chair. Food was OK, drinks were somewhat watered down, but plenty to go around. At night, there was entertainment which as decent and varied every night. No night time snacks though. If you ate at 6:30PM you would be somewhat hungry later. Many Europeans and some Americans.

This was the best trip I have ever been on. My boss took everyone I work with there for a long weekend and we had a blast. It was so great that I forgot how my boyfriend broke up with me the night before I left to go. Plus we met the most interestion people from england there.

Hey I just wanted to say that i have been to the Riu Yucatan twice already and I can`t wait to go back again next summer. It is so beautiful down there. The service of the workers was outstanding and I have made alot of friends in this particular hotel. I wouldn`t want to go anywhere else but the Yucactan. We will be returning in June of 2003 again nad I can`t wait to see everyone again. The beaches were amamzing, the food was delicious and the pools were wonderful. I am so excited to come back again.

We just returned from a trip to the Riu Yucatan. We had an issue with American Airlines (delayed luggage with belongings stolen) and the staff at the reception desk were outstanding. They were always there to help us, making phone calls and keeping us informed of the status. They went out of their way to make sure that we eventually had a good time. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Playacar!

i loved staying at the yucatan! the service,staff and value made my holiday very enjoyable. The childeren loved it here also because of the friendly staff that made then feel very welcome. id recomend it too anybody!

WELL WHAT CAN I SAY OTHER THAN THIS RESORT IS FANTASTIC . ME AND MY WIFE BOTH 40 WENT TO THE YUCATAN IN APRIL 2004 . WE HAVE STAYED AT OTHER RESORTS IN THE DR CUBA ECT. BUT THE RIU RESORST ARE THE BEST.THE FOOD WAS GREAT ROOMS VERY NICE SERVICE EXCELLENT, NOW THE BEACH HARD TO FIND WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT JUST BEAUTIFUL.BEWARE LOTS LOTS OF TOPLESS WOMEN NO PROBLEM WITH US AS MY WIFE WAS TOPLESS ALL WEEK. ANYWAY HAVE BOOKED AGAIN FOR APRIL 2005 AT THE YUCATAN CANT WAIT.

I went there last year it was the best trip of my life!..I'm just a teen and you would think I'd get bored and want to go to a different place this year. But I begged my parents to drag us back! The food was great! club was great! bars were great! service and resort in general was spectacular! I reccomend to everyone.

We have traveled to many resorts in Mexico and found this area of Mexico to be the most beautiful. The beaches are magnificant and all of the resorts are only a few years old. Even the shops and restaurants are newly built. We visited this resort in April, 2002 and found lovely accomodations, plenty of food and a beautiful pool. The food was excellent and plentiful - so much variey at each meal. There were speciality foods being offered in addition to the buffets, beach parties and plenty of activities. All of the rooms are standard, nothing extra special, but large enough with a balcony and kept very clean. Request an additonal bed for a child. My only complaint, if any, was that because everything is all-inclusive, the liquor is not quality and the drinks are very watered down. If you drink a speciality brand, ie Absolute, Dewars etc., bring your own because you can`t even buy it at the bar! However, the drinks were plentiful we never had a problem getting a drink, the mini bar is stocked and there are absolutely no limitations on food or liquor. There were wine and beer taps everywhere. If anything, they feed you too much. The beach is absolutely beautiful! The entertainment was not great - shows put on by the activities directors, but if you stayed at the resort in the evenings, it was there. The staff was courteous and happy to serve. There are two additional restaurants - one for seafood and one steakhouse, but the buffet offers such a great variety. Long pants are necessary for the men at the dinner buffet. No other dress code is necessary. Many people from all nations were visiting when we were there and the beach is tops optional!
