We liked the cleanliness of the hotel, the maids were very good....Provided.... shampoo and shower gel/sewing kit, shoe mit, cotton buds and shower cap and soap. the location was very good with the Rogier metro 2 seconds walk from the hotel. The staff were generally friendly. The service for breakfast needs URGENT attention.
The used plates were not cleared efficiently. By 9 am the breakfast food was cold. The toaster seemed to be out of action for 2 days. The coffee machines sometimes worked and sometimes not. There was a lack of cutlery on some days. The scrambled eggs were the best we have ever tasted.Breakfast is served until 10am....this should mean the food should surely be hot until then...beware, it is not. For 15 euros per person per breakfast one would expect it to be edible.it is not. The air conditioning is not efficient. Our visit was from 19th to 23rd May 08, it was hot on the 24th floor even with the window wide open. The sirens wailed all night into the early hours. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from Grand Place. The Metro is quick and it is easy to use to see the important sites. Beware, most things are in two languages, presumably French and Flemish. When on the Metro, the screen will flash up the destination in two languages on the train/tram/train. We got a JUMP ticket for the Metro, much cheaper than buying for single journeys. Make sure you validate it at each station at the orange machine. Everything seems so expensive. If you want to eat a snack, go to the underground and get a baguette filled with salad and other fillings for about 3 euros, very filling and cleanly handled. Do not bother to go to the botanique gardens, it is rubbish, there are no flowers and the whole place is littered with fag packets and dogends. There does not appear to be any flowers in the parks. Two places worth seeing are the atomium and bruerpark, this is a whole day, well worth the admission. The EEC building will just make you mad to see how our taxes are spent, well worth a look anyway. About 5 minutes...The METRO GOES THERE.
The airport express is good, about 4.80 euros pp. The travel is brilliant, easy and trouble free. If you need internet access, it is very expensive at the THON hotel.
You do get tea and coffee making facilities, sometimes they leave several coffee/tea sachets, sometimes they don't. BEWARE the blurb says there is a fridge in the room, there is NOT, it is a mini bar where you press the button for drinks, you cannot use it as a fridge. If you want supplies,. there is a supermarket next to the hotel, not open till late. There is a shop opposite the hotel called TOP SHOP, tjhis is open until very late where you can buy water, milk, ciggies, it is twice the price though. I hope this has been useful to you.
