complaint re: "pets welcome" and extra charges
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/04
I stayed at the Super 8 Motel in Humboldt, Iowa November 16,17 & 18.There were 3 adults and we rented 2 rooms 1 in 1room & 2 in another. The rates were listed on the internet web site along with a "pets welcome" listing, I guaranteed the rooms for late arrival
and picked up the keys in an outside mailbox after the lobby closed.
We let our two dogs into our room relying on the information gleaned from the web site. We then were informed on November 18 that we were going to be charged $10/per/night per dog. Indeed
we then were charged an extra $40 for the 2 nights our dogs were inside despite the fact that there was no way of knowing of these extra charges from the web site and the scenario above. On the spot
negotiations with motel staff relayed to the owners was to no avail.
I suggest that a "pets welcome" listing without an accompanying
extra rate charge for the same constitutes deceptive advertising.
