This Mexican-owned all inclusive beach resort really caters to families and this is reflected in their reasonable prices and excellent children's program. For the adults there are a variety of activities including the Sand Dollar Sports for diving or snorkeling. The grounds resemble a Mexican village with unit of 8 placed together under palapa roofs. Most of the rooms are ocean view and all are decorated in bright Mexican colors and furnishings. The staff here are noted for their genuine warmth and hospitality.
After a 23 minute taxi ride from the airport, we arrived at the beautiful & spacious lobby. We had 2 reservations for 2 rooms for 2 adults & 2 teenagers. We emailed ahead to the hotel manager, hotel reservations dept & hotel group coordinator to request the two rooms to be close to each other & for one king & one double rooms. We arrived at 10:30am. No rooms were available, & no king bed rooms avail either. So we settled on 2 double bed rooms. Both rooms were missing AC remote controls & one missing a shower knob. All were delivered promptly.
The resort common areas are very nice, classy & upscale. The rooms are standard rooms, but not up to the normal Wyndham standards in the US. The walls had peeling paint & some mold in the bathrooms. The air vent in the bathroom spewed out water & soaked our 2 toiletries bags. The AC worked very well.
The food were decent, not great, but not too bad. We stayed for 3 nights & had reservations for 2 nights. Roberto's served good Italian food, but Roberto wasn't very friendly at all, & the AC was on but the room was very hot. Vista Del Mar had open air tables with beautiful views, excellent food, & friendly servers. The buffet was OK, but crowded for breakfast.
Bar service at the pool/beach was very slow & very long lines.
The beach area is beautiful, probably the best beach at any Cozumel hotel, with wide white sandy beach. Lots of beach chairs available. The water was warm & crystal clear. There's a beach trampoline & a rock climbing inflatable "rock" that's fun to play w/, the kids had a blast w/ them. There's kayaking, sailboats, & snorkel gear that's free to use. Jet Ski rental are: $35 for 15 min & $55 for 30 min.
Overall, we had a great time here & would stay here again.
We visited this resort last December and highly recommend it for adults seeking a break from the hectic city life. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. The meals were gourmet style in elegant settings even though dress is casual. All 4 restaurants were great. The view from our room overlooked the beautiful pool with swim up bar. Our room was spacious and luxurious. Daily and nightly activities were numerous and wonderfully organized. Rental cars and Jeeps are available from the resort with very reasonable rates. We even extended our stay 2 more days (and even got a discount rate)because our experience was incredibly good. We plan to go back in August 2008 for a week because of our wonderful experience!!
I was worried after reading the many negative comments written by people who had stayed recently. However I had an extremely pleasant stay. I was there by myself primarily for the diving, and was given a basic room by the beach halfway between the main building and the dive shop.
I found the room adequate, the bed was on the firm side, but that is how I prefer it. The water was hot, the shower had great pressure and the room was cleaned by cheerful staff each day. My air conditioner stopped working after two days but I found the fan compensated fine since I don't like the air to be too cold anyway.
The food in the main buffet dining roon was better than I anticipated. Sure there was some repeated items, but since each day offered several meats plus fish, a good salad variety and basic staples, I don't see why that should be a problem. If you want to eat unhealthy rubbish, go somewhere else.
As a diver (and one who is health conscious) I don't feel the need to have a drink in my hand constantly, so I cannot comment on the bar service. If you have to wait 10 minutes to be served, perhaps that's a good thing.
The staff were always friendly, helpful and courteous. Sure, check-in was a bit slow, but so what? What else do you have to do?Free internet service was offered, something rarely seen nowadays.
Sand Dollar Diving operated an excellent, professional and safe business. Their staff were great, rinsed and stored equipment overnight, and the boat staff couldn't do enough to ensure everyone had a great time. It's a pity the reefs have suffered from recent storms, which in turn I believe will deter some divers from returning.
To all the whiners and complainers who have left negative reviews, I say "Get a Life!". When in Mexico, sit back and enjoy the efforts of the people who work hard to serve you and remember this is a Mexican island community. Things do not always go as planned. If you want paradise, go to French Polynesia.
My husband and I went to this resort over five years ago before it was bought out by Wyndham. It was absolutely wonderful then! We recently went back in Novemeber of 2007 and it was even better than we remembered. It still had the laid back feel as it did when we went before but had even more to do and more restaurants. I will probably go back to this resort every time I vacation in Mexico. We are actually planning another trip to Mexico very soon and we will definitely be staying here!
This was our fifth time to the Reef Club Resort in Cozumel. We had read the poor reviews and thought that it really could not have changed that much from our previous trips there. It actually had changed that much! We found the service poor. They were terribly understaffed. The one bartender on duty during the day was crabby - they often ran out of glasses, straws, mixers, limes, etc. in the bar. They ran out of food quickly in the buffet resturant and service was poor in there also. The pool was cloudy and there was never a smell of chlorine like you usually get at public pools - I was afraid to go in it after the first day. The recreation staff was poor and the shows did not compare to what they use to be. The showere had no pressure and the water temperature was inconsistant. One day they repairing tiles with a skill saw next to us by the pool - tile dust was flying all over our lunches we had by the pool. There was a problem with flies and the septic smell was quite strong. We enjoyed the warmth and sun, but will not be returning to the Reef Club again.
Hotel was overbooked even though we had already paid and made reservations. We were forced to go to another hotel we did not want to stay at. There were about 40 more people just like us who had reservations but still had to move to other hotels. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.
This was our first trip to paradise during spring break. Though our room was clean, the beds are very, very hard and uncomfortable. Our shower had no water pressure and the head was clogged. The air conditioner in our friends' room didn't work even after maintenance came up twice to fix it. You literally had to wake up at 5 a.m. every day in order to save a lounge chair by the pool on the Sabor side, otherwise you didn't get to sit by the pool all day. The worst part that we couldn't get past was the HORRIBLE smell of raw sewage all day long. It's the strongest between the Sabor to the main resort... but it truly gags you!!! After our third day there we complained that we had paid for an ocean view but it was blocked after the multimillion dollar construction - and we were upgraded FOR FREE to the Wyndham Aura next door - the only five star resort on the island. It was absolutely BREATHTAKING! We didn't have a single complaint and the rest of our vacation was HEAVENLY! We definitely recommend seeing the on-site photographers for professional photos at sunset. They are amazing and cheap!!! We would not visit the Sabor section again, although the staff was a lot of fun, but we would absolutely go back to the Aura! AMAZING!!!
Just returning today from a 5 day vacation trip to Cozumel with family and friends.
The reservations were made by my friend so when he quized me about the Cozumel Wyndham i said sure. That name is a Warranty. It was not.
Slow check in(one staff member serving one client at a time with 3 in line, while 3 staff members are on the counter but not offering assistance) Long lines for every meal (30 to 50 min), dirty suite bathrooms, old towels and linens, unreliable hot water supply in shower, half working faucets (only hot), tv's with scratchy picture, no DVD's to make up for, unreliable wifi, real poor cooking, understaffed restaurants and bars (even left alone bars)friendly but very unsuficient staff, etc. etc.
We ended up buying supplies at the local supermarket to avoid the time waste of doing buffet lines and mostly enjoying dinner at local restaurants in San Miguel. (let's talk about all inclusive now). I do not intend to waste precious vacation time standing in line to get a bad meal.
Honestly this time Wyndham was way way below the name. Definetly not Returning there, but now i just lost faith in other Wyndham propieties too.
Our first trip here was O.K, but our current stay is unbelievably bad. As the hotel filled up, the staff lost their since of customer service, and their manners.
After days of poor food but good customer service, we finally got bad both. Lost dinner reservations were the norm, but good employees were able to pick up the slack. Now as we are turned away from the all inclusive restaurant because they are full, it is done with disdain and discust. No managers are available after 8:00, but the front desk and customer service are sure that what ever happened was O.K. with them. Csutomer is always wrong.
Thank god we only one day left to be treated like cattle and worse. We will not return. The staffs claim they are trying for a 5 star rating is a joke. They are a 2 (3 for Mexico) at best.

I just wanted to start off by saying that we have timeshare and we go every year. It is an awesome resort. Although the food is sometimes iffy, you are not on vacation to chow down. Just to have a little so that you do not remain totaly trashed while you are there. The service was excellent and the staff can not be more helpful. The location is a litte drive from the main town but it is worth it. The spa is excellent and the drinks they start serving right as you walk up. When we leave I always feel like that was the best vacation we have had and we have been going for 3 years and this year it will be the 4th year in a row. Can not beat it.
