I won't be back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/23/09
We had the best view of all our Mexico trips but...we could only get one room card, we had to wait in line every time we wanted a drink, the food was not that good, and the staff acted like we were an inconvenience. Good thing I packed my leatherman (tool) because I had to tighten up the fan blades in the ceiling fan above our bed and reattach the lock for the sliding door to the patio. The whole place is run down, our sink was all cracked up, and the shower sloped away from the drain. Roberto's fine dining was so loud that we too had to yell to be heard at our own table. I could go on, but why bother. I would suggest that before traveling to Mexico, you read reviews about the resort, and don't rely on the Hotel's web site!

would never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/23/09
We couldn't get two room keys and were told a variety of reasons why. Other guests said they had to ask every day and finally mid way through the week they received another key. We received another key the day before we left. The bathroom was horrible. The sink was cracked, faucets were rusty. The light in the bathroom was broken, there was paper stuck in the light to keep it from falling. When eating at the restaurant we ordered desert. They then asked us to eat the desert outside so they can seat other guests. The food was awful, the service was extremely poor. There were long lines for food and drinks. The staff wasn't friendly. The first night we called for a wake up call and never received a call. The fitness center was disgusting. It was dirty and there were coch roaches on the floor. Other guests that we spoke with were experiencing water issues either no hot water or no water at all. The curtain in the room had holes in it and our door lock was broke. When we checked out no one asked how our stay was or even said thank you. A few positive comments, the spa services were great and the weather was great. We found a restaurant on the far end of the property for breakfast that had great service and the food was better. Unfortunately we didn't find it until half way through the trip. We ended up eating dinners downtown as opposed to staying at the resort. Casa Mission is a great restaurant in town. We would never book with another Wyndham property.

Wyndham-You should be ashamed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/6/09
We were at this same resort in 2002 before it was taken over by Wyndham and it had a lot of problems then, but liking the location, beach etc. we decided to try it again now that it was owned by Wyndham. It was a disaster. The room was moldy, the toilet broken, there was no water in the taps (although the floor had plenty), no plug for the provided (& thus useless) coffee pot, no swim up bar(as advertised) and the beach bar/snack bar was never kept clean(you would almost need to beg for a cloth to wipe your own table) Maintenance came several times and "fixed" the toilet and water problem apparently, and the maids kept mopping up, but the problem was never resolved all day long. The top-off was in being moved to another room(a good one in the Sabor section but very distant from the beach or theatre etc.) My husband accidentally left behind a pair of orthopaedic shoes which somehow never turned up in lost and found - they simply vanished. The best thing about this resort is Carlos and Beatriz from the front desk, but even so, this time I am sure we will never go back!

Wyndham - Cozumel (Never Again!)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/2/09
This resort stay was our worst experience. We travel quite a bit. I will provide you a summary. Two double/single beds, problem since we requested a king bed. When we tried to take a shower, there was very little water available and when the water did come out, the water was scalding hot. The air-conditioner did not work. Trying to keep a positive attitude, we walked down to have a drink and dinner. We stood in line for over 10 minutes, to get two drinks. The food for the buffet was very limited. There were no glasses to serve yourself water, juice, or soda. In fact, at one point, we had to leave the buffet area, walk across the resort to the bar, stand in line, and order a drink, just so we could have a drink while seated during lunch and dinner. There were no drinks served in the dining room. When we arrived at "Roberto's", we found a lot of very angry people. It was first come first serve. The host was taking names, but people were taking spots that did not belong to them. This was a continued theme until Sunday evening, when the resort expected the rush of Christmas. We were never told that we needed to have reservations for Robert's starting Sunday. We were moved to a new room with king size bed, working air-conditioner, and semi-working water in the shower. Armed with a positive attitude, we decided to eat at "Chiles" We sat for 20 minutes, no one came by. I asked someone and was told sit and wait. The Concierge came down and we were served. The next morning, my wife was in the buffet for breakfast and asked for water, The waiter just laughed and pointed to the ocean. He never came back. In fact, this too was a theme throughout our vacation. Drinking water was difficult to obtain. There are no self-serve drinks available in the dining room. My wife resorted to buying water from the resort store. The next day, we went back to Chiles to have lunch, no one would wait on us. We finally had chicken for lunch. I mention this because the next day the restaurant ran out of chicken for the rest of our stay. That same day, they ran out of Margarita mix, in Mexico! They DID finally find more Margarita mix later during our stay. We are in our 3rd room, located at the Sabor. We are able to get bottled water and drinking water anytime we need it. This place is nice, stay here if you have to choose Wyndham. The resort was constantly running out of supplies. If you wanted a drink or something to eat. in most cases you would have to stand in long lines and fight with other disgruntled guests. In the morning the cook prepares one omelet at a time. Apparently two guests had enough of the poor service and lack of supplies, that they took the situation into their own hands. After waiting in line for 30 minutes to get a beer, one guest jump behind the bar and started serving drinks. Another guests became so distraught during their Christmas vacation, they actually struck one on the people behind the desk. While I do not agree with this behavior, I think these actions are indicative of how frustrating this Christmas vacation was for us and the other guests. One morning, the buffet ran out of toast at 8:30AM! The buffet was never labeled, so you never really knew what you were getting. There was no vinegar and oil for the salad bar, so obviously the salad was always left on the buffet. In Roberto's they ran out of Olive oil. .....Italian restaurant! Ran out of beach towels. The smoothy bar was never operational during our entire visit. There were three Hobie's for use by the guest, then there were two. They never fix the third boat while we were there. Unfortunately, this trip was a disaster. We are not complainers and I hope you see from our story that we tried very hard to make the best of this trip. BTW, the diving was great, and we WILL return to Cozumel, just not Wyndham. I hope this review saves some of you. :-)

Had a great anniversary
By DreamGyrl360, 12/26/08
I loved everything -- the employees -- very nice people, the locals in general were very humble. The entire island is very safe... We stayed in the Sabor, the adults-only section of the island. The room was wonderfully romantic, the weather was so nice that we could leave our balcony door open while we slept at night. We really enjoyed the food at the Mosaique; La Isla, their buffet is so-so. The beach was wonderful, they have free snorkle gear, free catamarans ($20 for the catamaran lesson). The entertainment crew (Foxy and Carolina) were great and friendly and fun. Everyone was eager to please, the other tourists were great friends to have for the time we were there. Some of the beach front rooms (NOT in Sabor) have jacuzzis ON the patio -- TOO cool! The drinks are really well made. We enjoyed the place overall. If we were to go back, we would stay there; we are already recommending them to everyone we know! Viva Cozumel!

Wonderful Stay except with Timeshare Sharks
By Terri Remenius, 12/23/08
Beautiful, absolutely breathtaking. We had an oceanfront room where we could walk maybe 30 ft. from our sliding glass door, to the exquisite clean white beach. Food was good, except the lunch area would run short on ingredients. Sometimes service was bad at lunch area. All in all it was a wonderful stay, really enjoyed learning how to scuba dive, the instructor Benito is awesome, making sure your safety is his #1 priority. Beware of the concieiers. We were told to book our little excursions with them, BIG MISTAKE!!! They will give you deals on your excursions, IF you do their walk-through on their "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" timeshares. They really bother you until you do, promising you everything from free hammocks, alcohol, mexican blankets, lower prices on your excursions (Jeep rentals, Dolphins, Pirate Ship cruise etc...) but do not follow through on their promises. Do not shop at San Migel, spend the money for the boatride to the Mainland to shop. EVERYTHING in San Migel starts at $20, and no room for bargaining. Also, watch out at airport when you land, the timeshare sharks are relentless and grab your vulnerablity. Wear a white t-shirt with huge words. On the front put "NO", and on the back have "Gracias". Taxi's are $15 to Town, (once at Wyndham) but $45 to airport, and the airport is only maybe 3 miles away from town. Beds are hard, but the stay made them tolerable.

Not worth it
By Russell3718, 11/10/08
I don't really know where to start. I read all the reviews before I went down and the bad ones were right on. I'm a GM of a restaurant so I'm pretty understanding and it's hard to really irritate me when it comes to the hospitality business. I was on my honeymoon so we had fun no matter what, but we left saying we're never going back there again!!! I will give you a couple examples, but it doesn't scratch the surface of all the details. We talked to several other vacationers that said they wont be back to Wyndham, but I'm on vacations so who cares. Well what I will tell you here will be what your stay is like. The first morning we woke up went to breakfast and witnessed a man yelling at the waiter or manager or possibley host about the service. He also was upset that out of 4 restaurants only 1 served breakfast and it's the same thing all week long and you get small portions. The other restaurant serving breakfast was Sabor guests only but that was never told to us. We sat down and waited for 20 min and never were waited on, so we went to the front desk and asked where else we could eat at. They even told us to go to Sabor which is no short distant walk let me tell ya. We get all the way there for them to tell us we can't eat there. So we walked all the way back to the other restaurant on the other side of the resort and told the same person that was getting yelled at before we did not get service. He took our order and we got extremely small portions. I went and got cereal that had an experation date of June 6th 2008 and here it was Late October. It was the same service in every restaurant every day. They always only had 1 restaurant open which people sat outside waiting to eat in one of them. To top that off they had like 2 or 3 waiters to wait on everyone. The buffet dinner was the same every night accept like 1 option. They had a very limited choice when it came to cocktails and yes they barely pour 1 ounce in each drink. Industry standard is 1.25 ounces. I couldn't fiqure out why they would use a .75 ounce jigger for every drink in an all inclusive resort. Plus the brands of booze they had I've never heard of. Sometimes you would see Jim Beam or Bacardi, but how many people drink that crap! The first night we were there we went to Casino night that had a bar and was fun even though the dealers had no clue how to play black jack, but big deal. They had a sports bar that sold no booze all week and never had any sports on. Finally the last night we were there they again had Casino night and I was looking forward to it, but they had no bar set up this time and the pool bar was closed. However, for the first time ever the sports bar was and no one was there. It was also showing the movie misery. I was making plans to hit the pool bar that they show in every picture on every website, you know the one with the swim up bar. Well it was closed and it stayed closed all week. All week the weather was red flag and noone was allowed in the Ocean. Finally one day it cleared up around 1:30 and they kept the rental shop for watersports, snorkel gear etc closed. Oh yeah you can't ask someone a question either without them wanting you to take a timeshare tour. Like I said we stayed away from the resort and went and found fun and did have a great vacation, but we will not reccomend this resort to anyone. You're better off staying in Playa Del Carmen if the water is rough the Fierry trip is the trip from hell and everyone on the boat gets sick. Playa has all the main attractions anyway. Atv tour was cool on Cozumel, snorkeling at the Money Bar is top notch, Wyndham did have good scuba instructors (Alex). Unfortunetly we couldn't complete our certifacation because of the weather, but he was a great teacher. Don't drive at night because you will be pulled over by the police or military and searched!! YIKES it happened twice to us and then we said no more of that. Good Luck Wyndham improvement needed ASAP!

Waste of money unless you like flies in your food.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/08
I love to scuba dive and a group of 18 mostly couples booked 5 days at the Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa. All inclusive with three days of diving (we paid extra for more (only 2 of the 11 dives were of medium quality... we kept hoping). Should I start at how when we showed up at the hotel they didn't have rooms ready for us and didn't know when they would. Should I mention the flies around the food. Or the extremely drunk deck hand on the night dive. Or the Wyndham time share salesman that tried to steal $35 from us. Oh if you like no pool towels and only two bathroom towels in your room you'll love it. Its a great place to lose weight because if you want a drink (even water) its a 30 minute wait. I sent the Wyndham company a letter detailing our experience and they replied it was a franchise and they are in no way responsible for how bad our experience was. The hotel manger did say Sorry. But nothing else. Our letter was actually 3 pages long and we get a Sorry. I will avoid the Wyndham chain completely. They don't care except they got my money. Avoid this place. Oh yeah the food was terrible besides the flies.

Avoid this place
By David, 6/22/08
This was our 4th trip to Coz and our first and last stay at any Wyndham properties. Service was practically non-existent. Stand in line at the bar and at the snack bar (at least 15 people deep all the time). Never enough towels for the room or the beach. Drinks are watered down. Food is way below average with very little variety. The pool with the swimup bar was green and it was closed for 2 days. Restaurant reservations were impossible to get for the 7 days we were there. Bathroom sink leaked into the floor. I could go on and on. I'll just chalk this up to a bad decision on my part but Wyndham will never get my business again. Very low class place.

A Great Destination at a Great Price
By The Lord Humungus, 6/16/08
A great all-inclusive experience. The staff was very friendly, the drinks were nice and strong, and the scuba was good (Hurricane Wilma decimated the Yucitan in '05). I'm a big fan of trying different resorts, but the Wyndham is going to be my "home base" for scuba diving!
