Great Time, Great Diving
It makes me laugh to read some of the comments. This in NOT the states, you are on Mexican/Caribbean time and pace, kick back and relax!!. You can pick the rookies out a mile away! I have stayed all over Mexico and the Caribbean (from 6 star to 1 star properties) and have returned to Cozumel because of it's laid back slower pace. We were here for 10 days this time in mid August. Biggest decision every day was what color swimming suit to put on and whether to go diving!! Staff was excellent, room service was efficient and very good, Plenty of Hot Water, had no problem with any of the food selection.. Hint: Don't go to Mexico and order Lasagna. Had ceviche everyday and lots of excellent guacamole. Still had the salad, soup, bread and desert bar in the main restaurant which I loved. Waiters and staff were efficient and never had any bad food. (some just better than other depending on your taste.) Fish was incredible!! Came in from a night dive and got to the restaurant couple of minutes after they had closed, the manager still seated and took good care of us. The snack bar had a good variety of items that were freshly prepared to order.
They were busy working on the empty rooms, looked into several after they were finished and they were spotless from top to bottom. Grounds were spotlessly groomed. Talked to the Management about paint on the outside of some of the building and they said it had been a very wet summer were working as fast as weather permitted.
Sand Dollar diving is an excellent operation, small groups, never more than 6 in any of the groups, several boats. Dive Masters and crew work to ensure you are comfortable with everything before you go off the boat. Slow easy dives at all depths. Turtles, eel, lobster and tons of fish every dive. They let you dive at your own pace and keeps a sharp eye on the less experienced people. Laid back, no hurry diving. Hint: buy there package dive deal. You get a card which they punch every time you go and you can share the card!! Bought one card and all three of us used it. A whole lot cheaper and it is good for the next time you come back or give it to a friend)
Nice long beach, excellent snorkeling is literally right off the beach. Saw rays, eels, and tons of fish. Bring your water shoes and a fold up floaty.
Rented a car one day and went into to town and had a great time walking and shopping. (Check to see how many cruise ships are that day). Afterward we drove around the island and saw thousands of turtle nests on the east side. Couple of good bars and places to eat over there. Lots of other things to do and see around the island or catch a ferry over to Playa del Carmen.
Will be back again next year.
