Resort fees and Vallet Parking really add up
By Tommy G, 11/03/08
My wife and I had a nice time, but upon check out we found out that we were charged an extra $70 per night for parking and a resort fee. We were paying $400 a night, and the place seemed empty. The extra $70 was not explained at check-in. I am used to paying extra for parking but $70 a day for place that doesn't even have a pool can spoil a good time.

WONDERFUL!!!!
By marjorie, 07/22/08
What a beautiful hotel. My boyfriend surprised me there with an engagment ring. The hotel actually looks like a castle sitting on the edge of the cliff. Service is awesome, food was great. Sunset was breath taking.

Beautiful location but the hotel is a big disappointment!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/30/08
We had reservations for 3 nights and stayed only one. This is why... upon our arrival the ocean view room with an outdoor fireplace was not ready. We were told that it was being cleaned and should be ready in 15 minutes. After waiting a half hour, we checked with front desk again. Since the room wasn't ready yet, we were shown to a "comparable" room with a view of a grass berm and no firepit. So, we had to wait for another hour for the original room that we booked. We were not impressed with what we found... the sofa and ottoman showed wear, the firepit didn't work and there was no privacy since the main buildings of the resort form a horseshoe around a commons area where four stories of rooms/restuarants/etc. look down on you. But even worse, the bathroom looked like there'd been a major domestic dispute there the night before! The sink/some floor tiles were cracked and we found blood on the bathroom door drapery... awful. We'd probably have been better off at a Motel 6!

FABULOUS!!!!!
By notscott, 10/15/07
The Ritz Carlton of Half Moon Bay is exceptional! The service is top notch, the hotel and grounds are GORGEOUS! The restaurants serve delicious food. If you want a very special getaway, this is your place. Yes, it's pricey but well worth every cent. At night, ask for a smores kit and sit by one of the many fire pits and enjoy a romantic and yummy treat. Love it! Love it! Love it!!!

Nice place to stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/13/07
I loved this resort!! Half Moon Bay is one of the newer Ritz-Carlton's, and they have really out done them selves with location and design. The only part that I disliked was the total of my score card from their beautiful course. I highly recomend!

It was just ok.....
By ValarieG, 01/08/07
Pros: Nice view Cons: Way over priced, Service, Spa I won a package from work including spa and golf. The front desk had the hardest time figuring out how to apply the golf to the package explaining about 10 different times that they are not affiliated with the golf course. Yet it was included in my package. They assured us it would be handled. I ended up being charged for the golf anyways after my departure. I am still waiting for my refund. Room service was quick and food was ok, not five star and way over priced. We ordered drinks one night and the never showed up. We also ordered towels one morning that never showed. We had lunch our last day in the main lobby, our waitress was good, until half way through she never returned. Never. After waiting 30 minutes for anyone to bring us our check not to mention I wanted dessert, we ended up walking out. My husband went back to get my dessert and pay the tab, they didn’t even notice we left. Just horrible service. We go to Spanish bay every year and I will tell you for the price you pay I would highly recommend you drive two more hours and stay at Spanish bay in Pebble Beach. The rooms are nicer and include balconies as well as fireplaces in the rooms; also the spa at Pebble Beach is so much more of a spa atmosphere then just a massage. The Ritz Spa was nothing in comparison and the prices are about the same. I found myself thinking over and over “what is the hype about the Ritz?” Will I ever go back? I guess if it was free again. Would I ever pay to go back? Never. Would I recommend The Ritz in Half Moon Bay? Never! Like I said go to Spanish Bay.

Did NOT live up to the Name
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/06/06
Upon evening arrival of 6pm, our reserved room was not even ready. We had to wait more than an hour once we checked in to get into our room, after a very LONG day of travel from Dallas, Texas. It would have been reasonable to assume we would have been comp'd a drink at the bar as we waited for our room to be ready. The room view was less than desirable, a view of the valet service was not what I expected. The food was only mediocre...and extremely small servings of anything on the menu. I was not impressed by the service nor the food. The hotel itself was visibly pleasing; however, it was not the 5 Star quality that I expected from a Ritz property. Would I be back? Probably NOT.

Scenery and amenities make this great
By Sandy, 11/29/06
The entire stay was a pleasure. We were pampered and offered a weekend of relaxation. We enjoyed a walk at sunset and then a walk at sunrise. No better way to enjoy the California coast.

Wow! What a place!
By Robert, 09/20/06
I didn't actually spend the night there. I threw my wife a "manicure and lunch" birthday party. The setting is spectacular! We happened to be there on a day where there was no fog - wow, what a site! Staff are hospitable and the service was outstanding. I recommend eating at the Navio restaurant. You get what you pay for!
