A Wonderful Experience!!!
By The Man, 04/04/07
I read a review on this site about how terrible this place was and how the service was terrible and rude. But since I can stay at a chain hotel anywhere I go, I thought I'd give this place the benefit of a doubt. I called to inquire about a room. The woman that answered the call and my questions was very courteous and informed me of the rules of the deposit and that she would keep the deposit if I canceled with less than one week's notice. She told me not to book the room if I could not agree to that. So, I knew the rules going in and made my reservations. If you're looking for a sterile environment in which you can eat off the floor, go to a hospital and stay. If you're looking for a very interesting, quaint, unique place with a LOT of character and ambiance, this is your place!! The owner does live in this place and has a couple of dogs and a lot of plants that stay inside during the cold season and are outdoors during the warm weather. I did look for the plastic plants as mentioned in another review, but I didn’t notice them (if there are any) amongst the many live plants. So, some potting soil or a few dead leaves do find the floor. With the beauty and elegance of the place, I barely noticed. This place is amazing! It is ornate and interesting and a wonderful place to stay. I am VERY happy that I chose to take a chance on Chateau La Crosse! The room I had was huge, with a nice bathroom, nice large walk-in shower, a very large (easily fit two people) whirlpool tub, very nice decorating (look at the pics), small fridge and antique chairs (only possible negative is the small individual room television, but I didn’t have time to turn it on anyway). The room was clean, the linens and towels fresh and the smell of the plants in the room made it seem like home. The place only has a few rooms, so it was VERY quiet. One general space room, was the library, which had many books, a larger TV and DVD/VHS player and is like a museum. The owner and operator of Chateau La Crosse is a wonderful and interesting woman. She’s a gem to talk to and she’s wonderfully open and straight-forward. I looked forward to chatting with her whenever possible. She also is an amazing cook and her cookies are certainly worth stopping for. I read the reviews that stated: “Their customer service was terrible!!!!! The woman on the phone was very rude.” To that I say BUNK. Just because she tells you the rules and she sticks by them does not constitute “rude.” The customer service was wonderful. Anything I asked or inquired about was answered immediately and with a smile. She was kind, courteous, friendly and overly caring of my needs. She offered advice on travel, restaurants and life in general. She even allowed me to keep my car in the garage because of bad weather. I can’t say enough how pleased I was with the accommodations, attitude and overall value of this establishment. I can stay at a chain hotel anytime. I can only stay at Chateau La Crosse when in La Crosse. I fully recommend you consider staying here. Mainstream is boring; Chateau La Crosse is an experience. I don’t really understand how anyone staying here, wouldn’t enjoy it. I don’t think I could’ve made a better choice or been happier with my choice, while staying in La Crosse.

Buyer Beware!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/12/05
We had the unfortunate experience of booking two rooms at this inn($400.00 was what we were quoted). We were told there was a 20% non-refundable deposit for the rooms. We explained we were making the trip to La Crosse on motorcycles and if the weather was bad we would not be able to make it. They said they would waive the deposit if the day before the weather was bad. That should have been a red flag. We were traveling with another couple who unfortunately had very bad news the day after we booked the rooms. A hospital stay was ordered for one of them so I called the inn to see if they would waive the deposit for a health issue.(keep in mind this was one month before the rooms were to be used by us, with plenty of time for them to re-book the rooms) We were told we would have to forfeit our $90.00 deposit. They would only give it back if it were the day before because of weather not because of major surgery one month before. We only booked the rooms because everything else in La Crosse was full because of Octoberfest. They would have had no problem re-filling our vacancy. Their customer service was terrible!!!!! The woman on the phone was very rude. She suggested that because our friend would be in the hospital, we should find someone else to take their place. Find somewhere else to stay!!!
