Perfect Location
The Relais was a wonderful hotel, with good service, great food, and the perfect location. The Relais is the last building on the mainland overlooking Mont St.Michel. Most of the very large, well appointed and well maintained rooms have a view of the Mt. which seems surreal- like you have stepped into a postcard. The patio and the dining room also had spectacular views and the food and service were excellent as well. One of the best meals of our trip was the "Lamb Three Ways". In the morning, the Mont was shrouded in fog. Around 9:00AM, after a sumptuous breakfast buffet at the hotel, we had a very peaceful tour up the still empty streets, and saw the various sites uncrowded and unrushed. We reached the summit around 10:30. By then, the fog was burning off with the statue of St. Michel blazing golden against a perfect blue sky. As we descended, we encountered throngs of tourists climbing in the late morning heat. They were being surrounded by the souvenir peddlers that had been absent on our early morning ascent. I was very thankful I had paid attention to the advice to get there early, and that we had stayed at the Relais.
