LOVE TRES BANDERAS INCLUDING ANDY & HIS DOG !
By Kirk, 3/5/11
Always had a great time at tres & would go no where elce in c.r. I have been going there with my wife for over 10 years and the only thing I dont like about it is the cramp in my stomach from laughing, (and a hangover or 2). I`ve watched andy bend-over backwards trying to please people`s every need and they all complain when they dont get something for nothing, (and they do walk away with the beach towels, I`ve seen it, not easy or cheap to replace in c.r.). notice that all the bad reviews are from the states, thats why everyone hates the u.s. dont go to c.r. and expect the u.s. otherwise stay home and go a ramada inn I`m sure there will be a dennys or mc donalds there to make you happy. thanks andy and keep up the good work, hope to see you soon !

Take it with a grain of salt
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/14/09
I visited this hotel in the summer of 2008. I had the best time of my life. The balconies that border the forest are a perfect place to relax and listen to the sounds of nature. Everything about my stay was great. Andy, the owner is a character to say the least. He is very stern and seems to always want to blame someone for something, i just looked at it as free entertainment... like having some good old US television show being acted out right in front of you. I will definitely be coming back to this hotel.

Staying Here for Eleven Years
By King of Funk, 1/2/09
I have stayed at Tres Banderas every year for eleven years, sometimes more than once a year. Andy runs the most professional, well run hotel I have experienced in Central America outside of the cookie cutter chain hotels. I rent the entire hotel on occasion and take fishing and outdoor groups for trips. The attention we receive is 100%; they are completely accomodating and many of my clients go back on their own. The food is excellent and the staff knows how to stay on top of things. The bad thing about boards like this is people can post anything they want with no recourse or qualifications. They think everything is like the Holiday Inn Express in Sheboygan and everyone is the same. this hotel has character and charm. Including the owner, who is Eastern European (Polish) and is a story of success when you want to take the time to know him. He fled communist Poland in the early eighties and is as decent of a man as I have met. keep Mommy and daddy in the Marriott. They will be nice.

Stayed for 5 weeks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/6/07
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Tres Banderas for 5 weeks this summer. We LOVED our experience there and wouldn't hesitate to go back. The meals are excellent, especially if Derek is your chef. The menu has a wide variety of food, even polish, as the owner is polish. The pool was our favorite part of the hotel, it is huge, cleaned every few hours, and has nice shade to read a book, but plenty of sunny spots to tan. The day bartender was excellent, and gave us great ideas on which tours to go on, and where the local hot spots were. While I've read in other reviews that people had trouble with the owner, Andy, we had a great experience with him. He was very accommodating to our needs, and was very personable. As for his dog, Sashi (sp?) the sign is necessary b/c one day she would sleep by me at the pool and have her head in my lap, and the next day she bit me. BUT, she is an excellent guard dog, and I appreciated her presence there. The hotel is very reasonably priced, and is a perfect location because it is right in between Quepos and the beach at Manuel Antonio. Also, it is extremely close to COSI (a spanish language school my husband attended). The rooms have hot water, cable, air conditioning and a lovely balcony. The beds are decent, as is the furniture.

Ugh the Qwner!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/20/06
I visited this hotel the third week in March. My wife and I were booked here for three days as part of a package. First the positives: Javier the bartender, was extremely helpful in booking tours, suggesting things to do etc. The hotel was clean comfortable and quiet. Now the bad. The owner is a Type A personality to the extreme. At the front desk a sign read don't pet the dog, he bites. The sign could just as easily be applied to the owner. He constantly berated staff in front of the guests and was never satisfied with their efforts. Breakfasts were highly priced and you had to get up and pour your own coffee and juice. If you want to use your Visa card he charges an extra 5% for the honor. When we were checking out he asked me to return the beach towels I had taken. I told him we hadn't borrowed ant towels. He insisted we had. I called out to my wife and asked her if she had checked out any towels. She said no. We had stayed in room 8 and I had seen the couple in room 7 take towels to the beach. I suggested he may have mistakenly noted our room instead of theirs. He grumbled something unintelligible and without apologizing handed me my bar bill. If he ever sells the place I'd come back in a heartbeat. but his surly and overbearing attitude were a real downer. .

Could of been a lot better...
By leonard h, 3/5/06
The hotel itself was very nice. The rooms are average, but the pool and hot tub (which is a cold tub) are clean and enjoyable. The restaurant in the hotel is presented very well, but the quality of the food varies from meal to meal. My wife and I had a very good meal the first night, but the meals for the rest of the week got worse and worse every time. Andy, the owner/hotel manager isn't always that helpful. Most of the time you feel like you are inconveniencing him when you ask questions. But you need to ask a lot of questions becasue he is not forthcoming with information. There are hefty charges for things (pool towels, sauerkraut... just to name a few) that you will get nailed for if you don't ask. Believe me, we learned the hard way. Andy's hospitality towards us especially suffered when a large group of fisherman arrived at the hotel. He catered to them like they were royalty, while we couldn't even get him to fix the phone in our room. I had to fix the phone with a toothpick. Would I stay at this hotel again.....NO WAY. I would stay somewhere that we felt wanted.

Worst Hotel I've Ever Been To, And I Didn't Even Stay There!
By Robin B, 1/19/06
Tres Banderas was the worst hotel I've ever been to and I wasn't even the one staying there! My husband and I rented a house in Dominical and my parents stayed at that hotel. When we would go to pick them up or drop them off, the owner always stared at us. One time, he grabbed my parent's reservation and came running out of his office yelling "There's only supposed to be two of you!" I explained to him twice that my husband and I were not staying at his rat hole hotel. The owner was the most unprofessional person I've ever met and again, I didn't even stay at that hotel. I saw my parents room and it's nothing to speak of. It was tiny, it smelled and it was overpriced. Please--do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else!!! P.S. If you do end up staying there, don't pet the dog. "You shouldn't go around petting other people's dogs." ~Andy

Enjoyed two visits to Tres Banderas!
By Mark, 12/8/05
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Tres Banderas enough, that we stayed there again on our second visit to Manuel Antonio / Quepos. We have also recommended this hotel to several of our friends, who also enjoyed their experience. I found the owner, Chris, to be very helpful. He provided us with information on the local area, and helped us arrange transporation. He does have a strange / wry sense of humor that could be misunderstood by some, but perhaps because I've lived in Europe I could appreciate it? My Spanish is limited, but Chris speaks excellent English and Spanish (among others), and was helpful with translations. The hotel is small, quiet, clean, and relatively close to the Manuel Antonio park (taxi, car, or bus). Pay attention and you may see howler monkeys in the trees on the hotel grounds. We found the jacuzzi to be warm when we were there. Your mileage may vary. Overall, a very good value, recommended!
