Loved the Homestead!
The Homestead Suites in Torrance gets a well-deserved praise. I was there during a long weekend trip to L.A. with my boyfriend. Staying in L.A. is not exactly cheap, but I was lucky to find an amazing rate for the Homestead Suites in Torrance. I ended up paying $95 dollars for 3 nights plus a midsize car rental with unlimited mileage. The regular rate when we were there was $90 a night!
I was a bit iffy about staying all the way in Torrance, but it turned out to be no problem at all. The hotel is located about 15 minutes south of the airport (a little longer if there is traffic) and was easy to find. It's in a nice area, with a big mall across the street and Denny's, IHOP, Starbucks nearby. The building is well-kept, and the rooms were exactly as described on their website. It comes with a kitchenette, fridge, stove, everything, even pots and pans! It's a perfect place to stay for long durations or if you are planning to cook at some point. Please note that this is not a hotel but more like an inn; there is no room service, no amenities, no restaurants.
Places like Beverly Hills, Universal Studios, Santa Monica are all a little drive away, but in L.A., what isn't? There's no real central point in the city where you'd be close to everything anyway, so as long as you have a car, you will be fine. Universal City and Hollywood are about half an hour away, Santa Monica is about 20 minutes. Anyway, if I am ever back in L.A., I will definitely choose to stay at Homestead again. It was great!
