A booking mix-up for a nice hotel
My family and I booked a three night stay at the Hampton Inn North Charleston for the location and value of the hotel. Hotels in central Charleson are much more expensive, so we decided to save a few dollars by staying in North Charleston.
We booked a room with two queen beds and a roll-away bed. This was booked over the phone two days before our trip. We were assured everything would be ready for us upon arrival.
When we got to our room(after a 600 mile drive that day) we found it was missing the roll-away. When we enquired about this at the front desk, we were told that they couldn't provide a roll-away in a room with two beds because it was a fire hazard.Apparently, a new clerk had booked our room for us, being unaware of the fire regulations. The clerk said his hands were tied and he couldn't do anything to help us that night, referring us instead to the manager who would arrive the next morning. Two of us had to double up in one bed that night.
When we went to discuss our booking problem with the manager in the morning, he was out of the building. Finally, the person in charge at the time agreed to move us to a king suite with a roll away, charging us an extra 13 dollars a night. This was reasonable, considering such a room was normally 139 dollars a night.
Other than the booking mix-up, the hotel itself is very nice. It's clean and comfortable and features a business center with internet access. The location is ideal, just off of I-26 and close to many restaraunts and a large shopping mall. Downtown Charleston is an easy 10 minute drive away. I'd recommend this hotel, just be sure that you're properly booked.
