Super 8 Black Mountain, Black Mountain

After I checked in and went to my room, I should have been alerted because the door was propped open. On entering the room, it stunk of urine. I let the room air out longer, thinking that would help. I had driven 8 hours that day and was exhausted. I decided to try to get some sleep. The sheets had burn holes in them!!!!! When I complained to the office the next morning, they offered to give me $25 off my next stay. What made them think I would ever stay there again? Don't bother going to this place.

Entered room, very strong dirty, musty, smokey smell. Ignored this, aired out room and got freshner ( I bought). Came back from dinner late, put kid to bed. Then I realized my bed, besides being hard as a rock, had a hole in the box spring, and, the mattress was ripped and stained, and stunk. I called the office, wanting to change rooms, no other rooms available, nor cots. I could not sleep in that bed, slept in dirty chair. I would have gotton another hotel, but, now it's midnight, and, my kid is sleeping, and, has a big early day planned. I again complained to the manager, probably the owner in the am. He stated,in broken english, that, "Lady, you are the only one that has ever complained about my rooms" While I find this hard to believe, I refused his offer to take $5.00 off my bill, and, told him I would be filing a formal complaint with Super 8 headquarters, as well as the Health department. I have, and, am waiting to hear what their results are.

Here were my choices in Black Mountain for a recent 2-night stay during Labor Day weekend for a wedding. Super 8 $60/night Holiday Inn $120/night Comfort Inn $180/night Knowing what I was getting into, and for half the price of the next national chain, I opted for Super 8. It's as described in the other reviews. It's whipped. The breakfast is meager. It smells musty. Some of the furnishings are newer while others are ancient. It did have a fridge/microwave which is unusual in this class. (The door fell off the fridge though). Also had in-room coffee but no iron. Had sofa/hideabed too. Wireless internet worked. But, I'm only staying two nights not moving in, so I was okay with it. But just barely.

The location is excellent and the facilities and grounds are clean enough. The family style restaurant across the creek is pretty good too. Non-smokers be warned: if no non-smoking rooms are available, find another motel unless you don't mind a STRONG smell of smoke in your room. I'm usually not that finicky about such things, but our room smelled like a smoker was living (and smoking) in the room with us. The place was booked solid so changing rooms wasn't an option - nobody's fault there, but the smoke smell was over-powering.
