be afraid
By rebecca, 02/25/09
This place is now doing business as The 49th Star and is bordering on scary. TVs don't work, they do not provide soap, I got bites on my legs in the night, and there was no sign of housekeeping during what was supposed to be a week but was only tolerable (barely) for 3 nights. Drunken brawl in the hallway at 5 am was finally stopped after 15 minutes.

Excellent Live Music

We were there for a show in November featuring a local Alaskan band called the Luvpuppets and they were great. Very nice banquet style restaurant, helpful staff.

Excellent Value!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/03/07
This hotel is what Alaska is all about...good food, nice little bar, and great staff. And the room rate in Oct.2006 was great too. Room was clean, large, but although it was non smoking, you could smell smoke in room....oh well. I am sure price goes up in summer, but still a great bargin in beautiful Palmer in the more beautiful Matanuska Valley.

smells like stale cigerette smoke.
By jim, 07/22/05
They advertise on Orbitz as a 3 star hotel. ITS NOT. It smells like smoke even in the smoke free rooms. It has cheap plumbing fixtures and you can hear other people in the rooms next door. It did look clean and the rooms were large if you can put up with the smell and the noise.

Great Unique Place...sorta...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/04
Wonderful location and view.....get a room with an open entrance to the roof with a view.

The elevator only goes from the first to the second floor....from there....the stairs will take you to the third floor where the *best* rooms are.

Frig, and small kitchen in the larger rooms....ask for the largest room (3'd floor back end) and you will have all the space you want with access to the the roof balcony. View to kill for. No AC....but a fan is in the room...not enough during the hot spell of July 2004.....but then again...the weather was a fluke. Take one of the chairs from the room out on the roof and enjoy cooler air.....

Also ASK for high speed internet access....they don't advertise it but it is there if you ask for it. Just take the modem up to your room and hook up....enjoy.

IF you like garage sales, or flea markets....check out the Bishops Attic just a block or two from the hotel.....has a little bit of everything at GREAT prices......lots of junk too. Garage sale heaven.....

We had a great experience with the hotel staff, worked with us on a number of issues...laundry on the 2md floor 2 wahsers and 2 dryers...all were working on the first visit...one was out of order on the second visit 2 weeks later....get ice from the bar....

Enjoy.....great hotel for this destination if you don't expect a Hilton! Library with free internet service right across the street within walking distance.

If you book, tell the lady at the front desk that the couple with the twins...who hauled up a lot of stuff to our room...2 stays, a couple of weeks apart, said "hello".....from Nashville!
