Great little spot in the northside
By J E, 10/02/09
When I booked a Best Western for a short trip to Chicago this fall I thought I knew what to expect. Happily I was surprised; The location, facilities, decor, and service of this hotel far exceeded my expectations for a hotel at its star rating and price. My room in the adjoining building, though close to the street, was quiet and more well appointed than other hotels offerings for much more. Our room included double sinks, a rain-head shower and a high end keruig coffe machine. The staff was friendly and accommodating of our needs; making fresh coffee immediately upon request during breakfast and cordially checking us in early when plans changed. Located about 10 minutes casual walk to both Wrigley Field and the Red Line trains it was convenient for nearly all our destinations. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Chicago, especially those trying to get the most value for a tight travel budget.

Great location---disinterested staff
By Rick, 08/07/08
Great location if you want to go to a Cubs game and visit the gay bars. There are many nice restaurants and shops in the area. About a $17 cab fare to downtown Chicago. The hotel itself is very dated and offers little luxury if that is what you are after. The desk staff do not go out of their way to be friendly or offer assistance. The housekeeping staff were very friendly and competent. The last night of our stay was eventful. Thunderstorms knocked out the power to the hotel. The power was off the entire night and next day. The only thing that was offered was a glow stick. Staff and management were disinterested in their guests' safety. Pitch black rooms and hallways and no hot water. In the end, they charged full price. Not even an apology when we checked out. When I called to complain, the manager was completely matter of fact when he said an apology letter was being written and that a complimentary stay would be offered if we came back to the hotel within a year. Would I stay there again?---probably. However, I would certainly not accept anything less than stellar service. They really do owe their patrons a huge apology.

Forget the hotels on Michigan Ave...this is perfect.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/20/07
My fiancé and I were on a five night holiday in Chicago and had hoped to stay at the Hilton on Michigan Avenue. Due to some unfortunate circumstances our reservation fell through only a few weeks before the trip, and we had no idea where we could stay- especially at the last minute. Thanks to the reviews on this page we booked at the Hawthorne Terrace and we are *thrilled* that we did. The hotel is charming, impressively clean and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful (especially to my fiancé, who is English and had a lot of questions about the area). For those who want imediate access to downtown this might feel out of the way, but there are two EL stations quite close to the hotel and we didn't mind the walk at all. The hotel is also right next to a large groccery store, for those that want to take advantage of the in-room mini fridge and microwave. I'm not sure if I've written anything extensively helpful, but as my experience was so postive (and I made the reservation after seeing all of the good reviews of the hotel on this site) I felt it only right to contribute. I can't imagine we would have had a better experience if we had stayed at the Hilton- and we paid so much less to stay here.

we will be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/22/07
The hotel was very clean, the staff was great and very friendly. The hotel was perfect for walking to restaurants, bars and Wrigley Field. The continental breakfast was more than sufficient. The only drawback was the double beds. Had a great time.

Beautiful Surprise
By tracy m, 07/15/06
This beautiful hotel reminds you of being in Europe. The walkway is lined with gorgeous flowers, ivy climbing the walls, wrought iron umbrella tables in the courtyard to sit and enjoy the scenery. The neighborhood is full of culture and quaint restaurants. The room was perfect with 2 comfortable double beds and a nice sitting area separate from the bedroom. The bath was large and had all the "extras." They offer a continential breakfast with delicious pastries, cereals, bagles and muffins. The staff were helpful and friendly.Parking is next door in the parking garage and the windy city is only a few miles away! We will definetly stay here again.

Very, very Groovy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/02/06
what a cool little hotel. it's in a very exciting neighborhood, lots of food & drink, and cool places to see. this place was so clean, my mom would be proud if my place was this clean. the staff was good too. they told us recommodations on the best of Chicago. Oh, the hotel won an award for 2006, "Best of The Best", me and my gilrfriend would agree. you gotta check this place out, you gotta check out Chicago too.

It's okay if you don't have a car!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/05
The hotel is really quite charming. However, if you need a place to park the only spot other than squeezing onto the streets is a garage next door, where you have to leave your keys with the office. I was there on business and had product in my trunk; there is no way I'm giving up my keys over night to a stranger!

the beautiful best western of broadway
By heather, 06/07/05
tucked slightly off broadway the best western hawthorne sweets offers the best of the boystown area. you are minutes away from all the things that make this area great: the lake, the clubs, downtown. The hotel offers a luxury that you do not have to break your bank accont over but still feel treated like a queen. There never will be a lack of smiling people ready to help you out with your stay.

Best Chicago neighorhood hotel
By Germhi, 05/26/05
This gem of a hotel is nestled in a quaint neighborhood that is convenient to many attractions. Aside from being mere blocks away from Wrigley Field and Boystown/Halstead Street, there are many great restaurants, bars, and boutiques just outside the hotel lobby. Those wanting to venture without taking a cab or the car will be pleased that the hotel is situated near two "L" stations (Chicago's mass-transit trains) that can bring you to great museums, shopping, and attractions of downtown in a matter of minutes. This is a small hotel by Chicago standards, which may be the reason why the friendly and personal service is always exellent each time I come back. As such, the hotel quickly fills, especially on weekends and during baseball season. While not as new or modern as downtown hotels, the Hawthorne's recent remodel is seen troughout the property. My room is always clean, comfortable, and quiet . . . even with a window facing the city busy street. The free broadband internet access, exercise facilities, and continental breakfast (featuring cinnamon rolls from Chicago's Ann Sather's restaurants) are just a few of the many surprises, especially for the relatively low room rates.
