5 Star 5 Diamond Oceanfront Resort Near Charleston
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/09
The Sanctuary Hotel, located in Kiawah Resort Golf and Spa, just received their # 1 in the world Tennis Resort ranking. It is the most natural environment we have ever visited. Great for families, couples or singles. Request ocean view room facing "Grand Lawn" which overlooks the beach. It was the 4th of July holiday and the beach wasn't even crowded. Excellent guest service! Outstanding location. You can "self park" and save on valet parking fees. Worth every penny! Please be sure to visit the "Rose Banks Cafe" near the Bohicket Marina (near Seabrook Island). Southern food made from scratch. The restaurants at The Sanctuary at very good....Jasmine Porch was our favorite. Great for breakfast. My husband loves tennis and also did some "surf fishing." Bicycle trails, spa, separate kids and adult pool, fitness center, indoor pool. We saw two deer roaming through the dunes in the afternoon. Extremely relaxing environment! You will love it! Great programs for the kids.

Elegant Oceanfront resort
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/2/09
The Sanctuary is an absolutely beautiful ocean front beach resort. The accommodations are tastefully decorated and the food is very good. Most employees are gracious and friendly. The spa is a lovely facility. The Hotel is lovely but overpriced.

Very lovely resort
By Sara L, 7/23/08
The service at the Sanctuary is impeccable. With the exception of maybe one person...all the people who I encountered at the Sanctuary were pleasant and friendly. We stayed in a standard Double near ocean view which looks just like the website shows. The Ocean Room restaurant is quite pricey but quite good. I'd rather go to restaurants in Charleston where the food is just as good and not as formal. I'd have to say the Sanctuary is a 5 star hotel.

Loved it!
By Monique, 7/27/07
Felt like I could forget about the rest of the world there. A little disappointed that the water was not so clear, but being on a private beach with no loiterers was well worth it! Turn down service and hotel staff attentiveness was awesome. The spa was just fabulous! Reminds me of Deep South Louisiana. Can't wait to go back.

Top Notch
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/25/07
Reviews on this site appear to be somewhat dated. The service issues sited in 2005 (which is when most of the reviews are dated) have apparently been fixed. We stayed during high season and never felt underserviced. Room service for breakfast was alwasy within 20 minutes. The resort never felt "overcrowded"--although nothing at Kiawah is--very spacious environment. Food was great. All in all, a lovely spot.

Great Family Visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/05
The staff at The Sanctuary are obviously well trained for a high degree of service, from the telephone operator to the caddies. The door keys even stayed magnetized for the whole week - a rarity. The rooms were nicely appointed. The beds were actually quite comfortable, the pillows were fluffy, the balconies roomy with great beach views, and the shower was killer. A suggestion for improvement would have been to have good coaching at the beginning of the stay on where to eat and shop. We didn't discover the Market, Fairfelds, or Bohicket Marina until the last two days. A laundry (washers/dryers) is very much needed for those traveling with children. All that said, tho, we'll likely cancel an Atlantis trip for next summer and return to Kiawah Island.

Luxurious stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/17/05
We stayed for a weekend in an oceanview room and it was simply wonderful. Rooms were beautiful and spacious with full ocean views. Dining at all 3 restaurants on site was fabulous. I highly reccommend Sunday Brunch and dinner in the Ocean restaurant. I had a signature facial at the Spa which was lovely and my husband said that golf couldn't have been better. The beach was great, too. Definitely worth the money and we will be back!

I Loved Being There!
By KimbroughM, 5/16/05
This Hotel was in a fabulous location. Kiawah Island seems to really be up and coming. I loved our room - the beds were fluffy and it was so clean! The restaraunts were wonderful too. Unfortunately the weather wasn't very nice so we did not get to experience the pool/beach at all. The pool seemed very relaxing and reminded me of The Cloister at Sea Island. Even though I currently live at the beach, I definitely plan on coming back!

Room to Improve
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/26/05
We had a group of 26 to visit The Sanctuary. We all stayed on the Club Level and boy, was it disappointing. The food was tolerable but they never varied their menu. Crab dip every single day! They could never figure out billing and when we checked out, everyone's incidental charges went to the master account. Not what I expected to receive from a hotel who wishes to be a five diamond rated property. The hotel staff was less than friendly and most were so new, they couldn't even give you proper directions. they have a long way to go!
