Reasonably priced but the WiFi is terrible
Good points:
I stayed here for a week during business travel. My company's headquarters are located less than a mile away, so I return to the area often. The location was great for work and for getting back to IAD, although newcomers to the area might have trouble finding the hotel, which is set back from the road behind a couple fast-food restaurants. The staff at the front desk were really nice.
The room was spacious, clean, and having a kitchenette with an (almost) full-sized refrigerator, microwave, and range was really convenient. Housekeeping only comes once a week, which was fine by me (at other hotels, I usually end up hanging up a "Do Not Disturb" sign 24/7 anyway, unless I need towels or TP). Even though it's close to several major roads, traffic noise was not a problem.
It's also quite affordable, which makes my employer (a small startup) happy.
Bad points:
I have a technical job with an internet startup, so net access in my hotel room is absolutely vital. Homestead offers WiFi for a reasonable fee, but the performance is awful; it's slower than dial-up. When I travel, I need to work from my room in the evenings, and it's just not cool when simple things like a Google search take several minutes and then timeout before the page loads. Trying to do anything online was intensely frustrating. I don't expect much in the way of hotel WiFi, but this was ridiculous. There are data jacks in the room, but they have been disabled.
Other than that, complaints are minor. The furniture and fixtures are careworn and a bit dingy, to be sure, but perfectly usable. Although noise from the outdoors was not a problem, I could sometimes hear my neighbors watching TV and having sex (although faintly enough that I could ignore it). Cable TV selection is slim, with around a dozen channels. The room comes with dishes, which Homestead clearly states will not be washed by housekeeping, but they don't give you any dish soap so that you can wash them yourself.
Conclusion:
For the most part, you get a good value for your money at Homestead Reston. It ain't the Ritz, but was clean, cheap, and relatively comfortable. However, the situation with internet access is a deal-breaker for me given the nature of my job. Sadly, because of their slooooooooooooow WiFi, I won't be back here again. Not recommended for business travel.
