Poor beds, cheap pillows, lazy staff
I have stayed at the Hotel Metro many times over the past year. This property has the potential for greatness, but for some reason, it consistently falls short. I can only guess that the problem originates with the management team. My last stay (4 nights) was the last straw.
The beds are terrible. They belong at a motel and not within a "luxury" property...Hard mattresses where the center hammocks and the springs are pushing against your body. No pillowtop. Just a thin mattress protector. The pillows are cheap, too. You can't fluff them up or reshape them. They are stiff and tortuous to the neck.
I asked to be moved to another room with a better bed. In the process of the move, I noted that two of my personal effects did not make it to my new room. I can only suspect that they were stolen or mislaid by the staff. The front desk was chipper enough, but I got the feeling they didn't look into the matter. My phone calls were NOT returned.
Room service, in the past, has not been delivered. I have had to call to remind them I am waiting for my meal. They apologize and act like this has never happened before... so far, it's been three times for me. When the meal does arrive, something is always missing.
Wake up calls are an an iffy request. Set your alarm. There's a good chance they'll forget.
There is only one doorman who greets you professionally and with cordial attention. The rest are young men with flip attitudes.
I have filled out a Survey and sent it in. I NEVER HEARD BACK. It's as though the General Manager holds his guests in disdain.
I don't understand how this hotel can consider themselves a highly-rated property. Though the room layouts are delightful, the lack of attention to detail rates it as one of the worst at which I've stayed. For the money, I'd rather be at a Four Seasons or Fairmont where quality and service are enforced.
