Beautiful hotel but $400 a night???
I know Boston is an expensive city, and we looked into many different hotel options before settling on The Hotel Commonwealth because of its proximity to Fenway and downtown. From the moment you step foot out of the taxi and the wonderful doorman greets you, you will feel like royalty. The staff was incredibly nice and very helpful with directions and suggestions on where to eat and shop. We picked a Fenway view room and was not disappointed. The rooms are very nice size, and the view was pretty nice- looking directly out into Fenway Park. The temperature control was a little touchy in the room which made it either very cold or very hot. The shower heads were too strong, but that is about the only complaints about the room. Very comfy bed and nice LCD High Def TV.
The city of Boston is so beautiful and if you come to the town, staying on Commonwealth Avenue gives you an amazing look at the city. The historical brownstones and the serene park in the median mix the old with the new and give this town such an awesome feel. It is approx. 25 min walk to "Downtown" which I will use at the western part of the Boston Gardens. The Freedom Trail begins about 1/4 mile from here and you will definately need your tennis shoes.
Definately take the cookie at the turndown service. Amazing.
Overall, probably one of the most amazing if not THE most amazing, elegant hotel I have stayed in, but is it worth the price of approx. $400 a night? When you consider that a Best Western is $240, then maybe it is.
5 minute walk from Fenway Park and Yawkey Way/Landsdown Street. Great bars there.
Do NOT eat at Uno Pizzaria, but rather take in Bertucci's (much better pie). There is also a 7-11 right next door for your snacks and toiletries if you forget them.
