Extremely disappointed!
In October 2008, I took a bus tour from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon and when we passed The Grand Hotel, I told my companions, "When I come back to the Grand Canyon, I am going to stay in that hotel."
I wish I had read all these Yahoo Travel reviews first!
When we checked in I asked about lobby internet access, which was advertised in the brochure, I was told it was not available and I should try the Internet Cafe down the street! Since I needed to check my email and print confirmation for a helicopter flight the next morning, I had no choice but to go down the street and pay $3.50, when the hotel had advertised FREE lobby internet access.
We asked if there was a refrigerator in the room and were told "no, but you could have one for $25 per night!"
My $66 room in Sedona had a free refrigerator.
The ice machine was broken on our floor and when I asked about ice, I was told I could go to the second floor ice machine. Maybe there was a reason I asked for a ground floor room? So I went into the overpriced restaurant and asked to have my water bottle filled with ice and water.
The rooms are advertised as having "balconies". Well my ground floor room overlooked rocks and a stone wall!
Breakfast was included in my reservation (I paid extra) and it was nothing more than a mediocre buffet. And to add insult to injury, they tried to present us will a bill for $30!
I had better breakfasts and free internet at other rooms on my trip for less than $90 a night!
The restaurant prices were outrageous and we went to "Spaghetti Western" up the street for delicious Chicken Parmigiana and pizza the second night. Highly reconmmend it!
The ONLY thing I can recommend about The Grand Hotel is the location, however there are several chain motels on the other side of the street which I am sure are less expensive and have amenities.
Would I recommend it? NO!
