Barceló Capella Beach Resort, S. Pedro de Macoris

Likes: Food, room was ok and clean. The T.V. had to warm up before it came on. The fridge was very small and needed defrosting, was not real cold. Dislike: Not friendly, very rude, had to push your way to get anything to drink at the pool bar, only take care of their own. Totally ignore you if you do not speak Spanish. Obvious they do not like Haitians and darker skinned tourist. Act like they don't know what you are saying. Looking at you like you have crap on you. One tour guy stated that they can't do anything about the Haitians being their and they tear up everything they touch. I asked one of the lady servers for orange juice and she brought it to me and then I asked three other times for a refill and she acted as if she did not understand me and totally ignored me. I asked one of the guy servers the same thing and he looked at me and said nothing. It was the worse experience I have ever had on a vacation. We asked if our room was available for two more days (brother had other business there) and they said they did not know check on the day you leave. I could not wait to go home. They could have looked in the computer to see if the room was free or not. Service is graded "F". I would never stay there again. I have let everyone I know not to stay there and how bad the service was. They do not take care of their guest. $10 a day for WiFi and $2 for one hour of use on the computer (very slow). You pay for what you get. Non of the tours take credit card payments, only cash or pesos (best part of the trip). The quality of the gifts are not worth the money. They only give you one bottle of water per room even if you have two people in the room (we had to share), one sprite and one coke. We asked for two bottles of water and was denied. The maid stated they can only give one bottle per room per day. I assume they keep tabs on the water and soda. There were times we did not have towels or they were damp when brought to our room. Thank God I brought my own from home. They were always out of towels for the pool so I had to purchase my own from the gift shop (don't take Discover). I would rate the hotel a 1 star. The grounds are kept up and it is beautiful, wish that was a reflection of the employees.

7/12 08 we arrived around 5:PM.Checking in took about 5 hours. In that time we were given to occupied rooms, that was scary! Sunday was a good day. Monday someone got sick.Tuesday someone got sick had to go to SD Hospital,over night stay would have cost $2000 American dollars. The beaches are beautiful. the food wasn't good. The rooms weren't cleaned. The phone services went down on Tuesday and was still down when we left on Saturday 7/18/08.Most of the workers don't speak English. Coco tours didn't pick us up for the return trip to the airport. We had to get a Taxi. Coco tours are not affiliated with Barcelo! We spent alot on this trip we didn't have a good time.

arrived Dec 24 just b4 midnight. the hotel was extremely busy & @ first there were some problems, all of which were taken care of by the staff next morning. in that part of the world nothing is instant - neither is in north america except that here there is a nice well-spinned word for each problem! the evening entertainment is EXCELLENT starting from the live music. specialty restaurants are not the resort's forte. just enjoy the carribean "winter!" service was good regardless of tipping!
