A Great Disappointment: Don't Let the Photos Fool You

We had a very difficult time finding the Hotel Tonfoni when we arrived in beautiful Montecatini because it is situated in an alleyway off the beaten path. (We actually had to drive over a curb onto a sidewalk to reach the hotel.)We found no place (except a handicap zone) to pull over to unload luggage. Once unloaded and checked in, we asked where we could park our car (as the hotel advertises "hotel parking.") We had to immediately go on another odyssey to find this parking (1/2 mile from the hotel).
We found our room to be spartan and dungeon-like....Couldn't open the blinds to see out, very small TV, no mini bar (as they advertise),no air conditioning or heating working, exceedingly small room and bathroom. Out of our 8 day vacation in Italy, this was our only hotel where we planned to spend 2 nights.
We did have a very decent dinner in the dining room that evening but were surprised to see 50 or so students dining with us. After dinner,we attempted to go to sleep in our gloomy surroundings but couldn't do that due to the raucous behavior of the students screaming, pounding on doors, running down the hallways and just creating havoc. My husband finally went down to the desk at 11:00 PM to ask the owners and staff to quiet the students down. The owner replied, "You and your wife, go out somewhere." This was not the answer my husband was looking for..... He and I did not get to sleep until 1:00 AM. We decided to check out of the Hotel Tonfoni the next morning since the hotel obviously did not care about offering peace and quiet to its occupants at night. Before dragging our suitcases 1/2 mile to where our car was parked,we asked for a refund for the second night, but were given a very harsh negative response.
We loved everything else about our trip to Italy and found a Best Western that was so accomodating and beautiful to stay in the next night in Montecatini.
So, beware of this tourist trap!
