Good for the budget traveller
The staff is incredibly friendly, and can tell you how to get wherever you need to go. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel, and the metro is just up the street. The rooms were impeccably clean, and they contain a mini-fridge and a safe - but the shower is the size of a coffin. I'm tiny, but I fell out of the shower at one point. My husband, who's a fair bit bigger, had a tough time. Also, all of the rooms are on the 2nd or 3rd floors, so if you are traveling with a handicap companion, this hotel is out.
Everything you would need during your stay is right in the area of the hotel. There's a market in the square very early in the morning, a gelato place just a few doors down, a small coffee shop, a pharmacy, a tobacco shop (where you can buy tickets for stuff), a tourist stand, a laundromat, and a grocery store on the corner across from the church heading back towards the train station (it's in the basement underneath the other businesses, we found it accidentally). The hours for everything vary, but you can eat in the neighborhood from about 5:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m.
We stayed for two weeks, and really got a feel for life in the neighborhood. I wouldn't recommend staying around the Roma Termini if you are on honeymoon, it's not a terribly romantic location. It is incredibly cheap though if you have a budget to work with.
I read a number of reviews that said this area was seedy at night. It's just odd because no one is out except for the "ladies of the night," who want to pickpocket you. This is true everywhere in Rome though. I'm from Cleveland, and I didn't have a single problem. I wouldn't say that a woman should be out walking around at 1 a.m. by herself, but that's just common sense.
