Stay away if you like quality service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/5/11
Officially opened earlier this year, the Marina Bay Sands is adjacent to a casino and upscale shopping mall; it is the centerpiece of the Marina Bay development project.
Highlight:
-Infinity pool (hotel guests only) at the top of gravity-defying architecture provides breathtaking view of city skyline and Merlion.
Dust on the nightstand and desk, mould on the floor behind the bathtub is not what you expect to see at a 5-star rated hotel. Unfortunately, that was the case during my stay at the Marina Bay Sands this summer.
Other lowlights during 4 night stay:
-Broken light bulb was finally replaced after three requests
-Dead battery in cordless phone never replaced despite three requests
-Housekeeping/Luggage/etc. takes more than 30 minutes to complete request
-Untrained/undertrained staff uneducated in the art of "guest services"
It has been a long time since I left a hotel disappointed with the level of service. With 2,560 rooms spread across three towers, I guess it takes time for everything to happen at the Sands. Sadly, the level of service synonymous with Singapore's finest hotels is severely lacking here. I strongly urge Yahoo! to downgrade the rating for this hotel.
Isolated location requires taxi transport into downtown unless you're willing to walk 10 min. to the nearest rail station. During busy times of the day, you'll have to wait in line for a taxi, but by then you'll be used to the waiting.
I recommend this hotel to those who will be spending all their time (and money) at the casino, or those who don't mind waiting half an hour for extra towels to be delivered.
For the rest of you, the best way to enjoy this hotel is from across the bay, where there is an abundance of hotels with convenient locations and friendly staff at your service.
