Beautiful property but employees feed monkeys
By ,
I love this placed but the restaurant employees lured monkeys down with bananas and encouraged tourists to feed them. If you like this sort of thing, fine, but Costa Rica govt. is against this behavior as it encourages dependency. The villas are comfortable and the view spectacular. Restaurant so so - eat elsewhere for dinner.

Couldn't be better!
By ,
My family and I enjoyed everything!, In our bungalow: spectacular view, bed for everybody (we are 5, 1 for my husband & myself, and 3 more for each one of our kids, big enough to be very comfortable and together, which was the idea of the trip) , great food and of course The Beach!, they say it is exclusive because they can't say it is private but for me is the same thing, you will not see random people, you can be totally relaxed and secure. If you are visiting Costa Rica, definetely go there, you will not regret it!

WEDDING IN COSTA
By ,
My sister in-law got married in Costa Rica and we all stay at the Tulamar Bungalows. The wedding party was about 100 people strong. The Tulamar Bungalows had everything we needed to have a great time. There was enough Bungalows for everyone, and the Private beach was the perfect place for a beach side Wedding. The Flowers and food was unbielivable. This is truely a site to see.

Stolen electronics from our room
By ,
We had a computer, camera and small amt. of cash stolen from our room while we were on the private beach on the hotel property. The staff knows when you are gone as they provide you with the transportation to the beach. The small safe in the room is not large enough for a laptop. Fortunately our wallets and passport were in the safe. The hotel response was on the surface one of embarassment and concern but did not feel an obligation to respond with appropriate financial compensation. They and the police agree that the theft involved an employee in some manner. This one event ruined our vacation! Until then were having a lovely vacation at Hotel Tulemar. The staff was friendly, the beach wonderful and the view amazing. We did find the food disappointing. Room service food is delivered by foot and wet and soggy by the time it reaches your bungalow.

Dream Vacation
By ,
We spent a wonderful time at the Tulemar Villas. Once you past the disappointing entrance (no fancy reception area, just an office next to the guard house), you feel like you are in heaven. We stayed in a villa having both floors. Both floors have unbeliavable views of the ocean. The rooms were great with every amenity you could think of. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant had even a better view, and good breakfast. The small pool with waterfalls is for the villa guests only, so is never crowded. There is also a beautiful private beach. The villas are located just within the jungle, and several times during the day, dozens of monkeys (cappuchins, and squirrel monkeys) just pass by you only a few yards away. I could not find anything negative to write about here, it was pricey, but was worth every penny. There are some construction going on, and additional lots were sold to have private and hotel villas built. I hope it will not lose its appeal by overbuilding. Try to get a villa away from the construction. I strongly recommend the Tulemar Villas/Bungalows, and definitely would go there again.

Heaven on Earth
By ,
My husband and I have been to the Manuel Antonio area 5 times. Tulemar was by far the nicest place, with the most astounding views, we've ever stayed. We were spoiled with the fabulous private beach, and the bungalows themselves were enourmous. Since they are built in a circle (or octagon perhaps), you are able to see the ocean from one side of the bungalow to the other. It offers a panoramic view that we haven't seen elsewhere. I don't remember the number of the bungalow, but I do remember that it was closer to the top of the hill, and I would suggest you try to find the same, because I think higher up offers better views. Hope you have a wonderful, amazing, and relaxing time in this little slice of "heaven". Pura Vida, Shawn

Trip Suggestions
By ,
Suggestions for trip: 1. We rented a car to drive from San Jose. Once we were in area, used it very little, consider flying, but watch weight restrictions in-country. Plenty of taxis. However, because of prior post, kept camera & binoculars in trunk. 2. Bought rain suites, waste of money-too hot to use. 3. Worked out well to bring own mask and snorkel, used their fins. (Snorkeling: rated B-) 4. Bring shore booties, bought at dive shop. 5. Camera lens- do not need long lenses, used 70-200 with 1.4X; plenty of length. 6. Internet connection not convenient - only available at distant reception area-would be nice at restaurant & unit. 7. Bank at entrance only accepts AMX (not Visa) traveler’s checks; plenty of ATMs that give both dollars ($20) and Colons. 8. Bring lots of $1 US bills, hard to find in-country and good for tips. 9. Dinner: Ronny’s in area and The Great Escape in Quespos. 10. Mangrove trip: Raised the price ($65) from advertised price ($60). 11. Brought Canon 8X30 IS binoculars-worked great. Second best vacation: first was Hamilton Island, Australia
