Dominion Hotel, Vancouver

Staff was great. Room was super cool. Place was a little "rough around the edges" so to speak, but I would pick it over a boring beige hotel room any day. Price is right.

This hotel has no elevator. You share floors with residents that have only one bathroom in the hallway. The club downstairs plays really loud music til all hours of the night. The floors and walls of the rooms are disgustingly dirty. There's no screens on second floor windows. Whole experience was frightful!!!

The Dominion is absolutely NOTHING like the website portrays it. Instead of an art gallery lobby-- it is a bare room with stained industrial carpet. The hotel also appears to share an entrance way and staircase with a seedy apartment--strange characters a-plenty. All common areas have the same stained industrial carpet, and no air circulation. I was told when I made the reservation that I had reserved the 'WonderLust' room, which looks great from the website, but I wouldn't know anything about it as they gave the room away. Instead we were offered a room that honestly looked like a condemned apartment (unfinished wood floor, smelled of smoke, grafitied walls, chipped sheet rock, dirt on the floor, etc...), our second room looked like a frat house-- beer posters as decor. And the Lamplighter bar downstairs was SO loud that we could feel & hear the vibrations on the 2nd floor-- suddenly the earplugs that came with the room made SO much more sense. I would never recommend the Dominion to anyone I know.

I wanted a step up from a youth hostel, without paying for a real hotel. I was very impressed with Dominion overall, but there are certainly problems that you should know about. The lobby and stairways are certainly trashy looking. I was ready to ask for my money back and leave. But the rooms are incredible - each designed by a different artist. I found mine reasonably clean, with ear plugs on the pillow for the noise at night. No A/C, but Vancouver is never that hot. The location is great, right in the middle of Gastown, with shops and resturants. And the people who work were extremely friendly and helpful. Just know what you're looking for and Dominion may be it.

It was dirty.. univiting lobby. HOT with no fans or airconditioning in the room. (we went and bought a fan) We had them move us from the first room..dirty, with a broken bed. Scarey! Their website is great but does not give the truth of what you will actually receive. Dirty bedding was in a corner on 2 floors. Left for a full day before anyone came to pick them up. There is more to complain about..sufice to know it needs LOTs of tidying up before it should even be open to the public.

Stayed in the Dominion for three nights. Cheap rate, cool art, comfortable room, central location. Wouldn't recommend to older more conservative types but good fit if your on a budget and a little adventurous.

The hotel was in a bad location (noisy and dirty) and the whole place smelled terrible. We cancelled our reservation after seeing the room, and were told we would be refunded. However, we never got our money back.
