wonderful place for a quiet and relaxing stay.
By c. gilmore, 7/6/11
We have visited Butler Greenwood 4 times now and have always enjoyed being there. Anne and Chase are very nice, they do allow pets, which is wonderful as there are many places for walking. You can see some wildlife, There are wonderful decks and a nice pool for the kids, or the kid in you. Beautiful gardens and trees, especially in the spring with the azaleas in bloom along with the wisteria. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Much better than the Myrtles, which is so commercial and the home itself is just lovely. We have stayed in 4 of the cabins and plan to stay in the other 4 eventually. My grandson is now 15 and he still loves going there.

Next Door to the Notorious Myrtles
By Jai, 2/14/09
We were on our way to Natchez when the weather became troublesome. We had stayed there before,so we stopped in at the Myrtles Plantation, hoping to find lodging. There was no one to be found. We tried the reception area and the cottage where the overnight manager stays, but there was no answer at the door. Kind of strange as there was a truck there. To say the place looked abandoned would be kind. The restaurant was dark and closed. There were a tribe of ghost-hunters flashing lights everywhere and looking a little dangerous to us. Strange people are fine with us, but these guys and gals looked fanatical. As it turns out, after talking to them, we found out that they weren't staying there! We left in a hurry and drove down the highway to Butler-Greenwood. We were welcomed by an interesting, clever hostess and shown to a warm, charming cabin. We asked if Butler-Greenwood was haunted and we were told in a jesting way that it was every bit as haunted at the Myrtles. The grounds were beautiful and romantic. We enjoyed a nice, comfortable breakfast and stayed on another day, just for fun. We had lunch at the Magnolia Cafe and dinner at the Oxbow Restaurant. It was all delicious and perfectly Southern without being "chicken-fried".

Could live here happily...
By Dana, 11/30/08
Stayed with a friend in the old kitchen cottage...cozy, private, but spacious. We loved it and would go back. The two bedroom cottage afforded all the space I'd need to live in quite happily. We had a kitchen, private baths, a den with fireplace, porches, jacuzzi, and lovely peace and quiet on beautiful grounds...fascinating historic tour of main house too.

Good one night get-a-way
By michael, 5/14/08
The people were nice. I like the fact that it is very private and quiet. It could have been a tad bit cleaner but you get what you pay for. I'll probably go again. Overall it was good.

Great!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/14/07
We have stayed in Chase's Cottage several times. It is such a romantic place. It is the type of place to go and have 'us' time, get away from the every day grind of home. We were able to slow down and be together that is difficult to do elsewhere. Especially in the winter, with the fireplace, it is soooo romantic. (Don't go if you are looking for nightlife or a party!).

Great Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/24/06
Married couple, late 50's, we spent Thanksgiving 2006 in the Dovecote Cabin at Butler Greenwood and had a GREAT time. It is a truly peaceful place. The 3-story Dovecote is built on an octagonal floor plan tapering as you go up. Cottage has a large downstairs bedroom with stained glass windows and a massive hand-made four-poster bed; jacuzzi bathtub, too. County kitchen with fireplace is on second floor. Smaller bedroom is on the third floor. Cut firewood stacked on the porch.

Don't Waste your Time or Money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/06
We are frequent guests at B&B's throughout the South. Our stay here in October 2006 was, without a doubt, the worst we have ever experienced. The accommodations were dirty, the furniture worn and uncomfortable, the so-called breakfast was a jar of cold cereal (which the maids "topped off" daily), two bananas, a small bottle of milk, a small bottle of juice, some sort of pastries(?) in a plastic bag in the refrigerator, and an already-opened bag of coffee. The owner's demeanor bordered on rude. The accommodations were bare-minimum at best, the floor was filthy turning the soles of my slippers black, and the cost was outrageous for what we received. St. Francisville has nothing to offer which would require an overnight stay. However, if one must stay, there are several other B&B's from which to choose.

Ancient Camellias
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/06
We visited Butler Greenwood to look at the old camellias. Some are down in a ravine to the left of the home. New Orleanians tend to think of Louisiana as flat. Butler Greenwood does not have flat grounds. The oaks are draped in Spanish moss and must provide a lot of shade during the summer. The camellias were beautiful. Go into town and visit the Grace Episcopal Church cemetery. Besides having interesting tombs, the ironwork is lovely and the camellias are wonderful. Then go up the hill to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and look at their camellias and the view from this hill. The main street has wonderful historic homes and camellias in some yards. This ia a wonderful time to visit (March 2006. Some camellias are still blooming and the azaleas have just started. There were a few paper whites blooming in the cemetery. Help Louisiana recover with your tourist dollars. This area was not as badly affected by Katrina as other areas such as New Orleans where camellias as old as 150 drowned.
