Not even safe!

We stayed at the Hearthstone Inn and Suites March 28, 20008. The first night that we had reservations we were going to have to have slumber mats brought to the room because they didn't have a room with two beds. (Hotel was full). We arrived at the hotel around 4-5. As soon as we arrived our children were begging us to take them to the water park. (The only good thing about the hotel). We quickly assessed the room and noticed that the bathroom door had been bashed in. We weren't concerned with the appearance, but quickly realized that the door locked anytime that you shut it. This was a concern because we have three small children. We were told that maintenance would look at this. We, reluctantly, left our room to take our children to the water park. We also noticed that our TV wouldn't come in. This was another problem for my husband who was looking forward to watching the NCAA basketball games. We were only able to get a couple of channels (very fuzzy). I'm not sure if this was a problem with their cable or the TV itself. No-one of course could help us with this. The next morning, I took my two older children to the water park. I started to feel bad and as soon as my husband arrived (with the baby), I darted up to the room .... to the bathroom. I rushed in because I was sick and I shut the door. I was LOCKED in. I couldn't get out. I stayed in the bathroom for about 45 minutes, before my husband came back to the room with the children. He starts knocking on the door and I have to yell to him that I can't get out of the bathroom. He tries to communicate with the housekeeping staff, but they couldn't speak English very well. He can't get in the door because I have also locked the deadbolt lock (habit). So, there I am (LOCKED IN....Hot... and scared that it's going to be forever before someone can get me out). My husband, after realizing that it's going to take some heavy duty equipment to get through the outside door instructs me to try to kick the door open. I kick and kick until I finally kick the door open. I'm so thankful that I didn't break my foot or that there wasn't a fire. I was hysterical at this point. In the meantime we get a phone call from the front desk and the clerk asks us to please check out of our room. My husband begins to tell them that I have been locked in the bathroom and that we have another room reserved. They didn't care. My husband, very angry, goes down to talk with the clerk at the desk. He apologizes, however, claims that he is not maintenance and cannot help that the door doesn't work. He takes $30.00 off of our bill, but claims that he shouldn't do that much for us. He did not seem to be an educated man that knew how to take care of hotel guest. I was crying as I left. When I walked out the door I hear him say, 'GEEZ.... What else did she want? So the bathroom door got locked!'. I called the fire department, but because it was the weekend and it was no longer an emergency I decided to leave a message. I am sure that this is a fire code violation. I am also going to contact the BBB.
This was just really scary and I thought anyone who reads these reviews would want to hear about it. I am a reasonable person, but felt that my family's rights and safety were violated at this hotel.
