The Westford Hotel & Suites, Johannesburg

The hotel is very run down - the rooms are dirty and tired looking, the bedside lamp shade was ripped/torn, the fabric headboard was filthy with old greasy stains where heads had been resting, the bedding was old and needs to be replaced, the blind in the bedroom was broken and wouldn’t stay open, we had a ‘suite’ which included a sitting room/kitchen – the sitting room consisted of 2 uncomfortable grubby chairs and a coffee table and the kitchen consisted of a kettle and a fridge. Only 50% of the ceiling lights in the rooms worked. The shower in the bathroom was filthy – the grouting is black with dirt and the shower door was also dirty with ground in dirt – a health hazard! There was no handle on the inside of the bathroom door. The restaurant only serves breakfast which on the whole was OK although the box containing the teabags was old and dirty and as the teabags were not individually wrapped you didn’t want to use them. The chairs were grubby and could do with being replaced or at the very least industrially cleaned. There is NO bar so there is nothing to do in the evenings if you want to stay in! There are also no facilities ie vending machine to purchase a bottle of water etc. There are a number of hotels in the area of a much better standard charging similar rates per night – DO NOT STAY HERE – WE WILL NEVER USE THIS HOTEL AGAIN.

The Park Plaza is a great business hotel becuase they have nice rooms, good service, are within walking distance to Sandton City / Square and has FREE WIFI. While the hotel itself is adequate as a three star, the WIFI, business center, great location and friendly service compel me to give it four stars.
