Totally Disappointed
By ,
My family and I (all adults) picked this resort because it appeared to be family-oriented and fun. The resort is great for families with kids that are planning on spending all of their time at the pool, waterslides and lazy river. This is not a resort for couples. The rooms in the towers were below standard (i.e. mold in the bathrooms, holes in the walls, small TVs with non-working remotes). My fiance and I were so disappointed that he immediately called down to the front desk to have our room upgraded to a suite but none were available. We were eventually given a Jr suite which was just a slight upgrade from the tower rooms. There is only one buffet and 3 restaurants (Asian, Jamaican and Italian) on the resort. The Asian and Italian restaurants are okay but the Jamaican restaurant is horrible (the food was not tasty and there was a bug in my fiance's pork sliders). The Buffet and the restaurants close at 11pm. The only thing open after 11pm is the Grill and it closes at 2am. If you come in from the club after 2am there is nothing for you to eat or drink until 7am in the morning (no room service available). The resort's entertainment was not exciting. The house band (Elements) was pretty good but the rest of the entertainment was not so entertaining. The spa treatment was a rip-off. My cousin and I each paid for a 60 minute massage but we actually only got a thirty-minute massage. The clock starts from the time you walk into the facilities (fill out information forms (5mins), then escorted to room to prepare for massage (15mins), massage (30 mins), put clothes back on and dehydrate with a small cup of water (10 mins). When we left the spa, we had spent 60 mins total in the facilities.

( Very Disappointed)
By ,
I went to Jamaica looking forward the going to Dunn river Falls. I been told my co-workers who have been to Dunn River Falls that you have to go to Dunn River Falls.. My friend and myself was scheduled to go Dunn River Falls. On Friday June 13,09 I receive a call from the Travel Desk to my Hotel Room stating my trip to Dunn River Falls is available for us to go. All I have to do is come down to the travel desk and pay for the extrusions. But when I got down there to the Travel Desk I was told by Maurice that he made a mistake but there is no trip to Dunn River Falls. I was outrage this is something I have been looking forward to for five months. Why wasn't I told about the other Travel Desk around the side of the hotel. That offer extrusions that go the same places the shuttle bus goes to. I left Sunset Beach Resort and Spa very disappointed with the communication from the employee. And unfortunately I never made it to the extrusions Dunn River Falls.

Not what it's rated and won't go back
By ,
Before picking this resort we looked over some reviews. They sounded great everyone having a good experience and returning to the same resort again. I loved Jamaica. It was sure a neat experience. I enjoyed the all the excursions except one. My advice to visitors doesn’t take the day shopping trip. My husband and I hated it, so did all the other 8 people. The driver took us to shops that all had the same items. At the end of the day the driver was slipped some money by a man on the street (with a cell phone) who thanked him for bring us to his shops. Take a taxi to the strip (same as Jimmy Buffets Bar). Go to a few shops near by the Harley shop. After that they’re all the same. You won’t find anything cheaper or better. Scuba Diving excursion is great and safe. The other excursions undercover cops around you’ll pick them out. Drivers also carried a firearm (with papers) for your safety. I prefer that then them not having one at all. The women are beautiful and friendly. The men in the country don’t respect woman as equal, no matter what race you are. The resort was ok. It was a place to sleep and eat. The food was good. We did find ourselves wanting something different so we just ventured out. When they have the Monday management team meeting go to it. You’ll drink and eat some the best food there. Cooks were super friendly . . . loved them. All bar tenders were great more so if you’re a yearly regular traveler. As for the resort, It was going though some renovations at the time (toward the end). It needed more word and cleaning. The water went out in Tower A. After requesting to be moved waiting patiently we were moved that night to a Jr. suite (smaller bathroom), lost our ocean view. New room was a good change after a week, didn’t mined it. We were there during News Year Eve. What an amazing night they sure go all out. It was beautiful. We met some really great people. A week after we came home one of the couples we met emailed us. They had been sitting by the pool and were robbed. They left their bags for a moment. As they talked to others almost 20 people had personal items taken. No photos to remember they’re trip. The resort narrowed it down to the thieves being hired workers for renovations or outsider getting in some how. I felt pretty safe there was a guard at the end of the beach area most of the time. There was maybe one cleaning lady was leery about, but you just keep an eye out for them any where you go. My over all opinion I wouldn’t go back to the same resort. While there we agreed to keep our travels to Mexico. The Riu in Mexico was rated at a 4.5 it was exactly that. I personally would rate the resort a 2.5.

Heaven on earth
By ,
I'm making another trip in May this year but went 4 years ago and it was awesome. The food is great, the staff is friendly. I am so excited to be returning this year. My parents went to Sandles last year and said it was no where near as nice as Sunset Beach, Montego Bay.

Better than Sandals
By ,
This was my first time in Jamaica. The rooms aren't the most upscale, but you only sleep there anyway. They have a fridge, large closet and nice bathroom. When I visited, the Water Park was still under construction, so we didnt get to enjoy that. However, all the food was great for buffet style, and the All day grill was awesome if you needed a quick snack. Make your reservations for the restuarants EARLY. There are plenty of cocktail bars, you are not waiting in line, nor do you have to hike a mile to get a drink. there are 4 or 5 beaches to spread out on, including a nude beach, and plenty of palm tree's for shade. If your not into the beach, they have swimming pools, with swim up bars, and of course the water park! LOVED IT!! We had friends staying down the road at Sandals, and it did not compare! Sunset Beach was waaaay better for relaxing! The only downfall, is you do have to travel a bit to shop. But spend a day shopping, and you wont want to do it again for another year!! So, no worries:) I highly recomend Sunset Beach

Proceed at your own risk...
By ,
We visited this resort in August of 2008. We reviewed many reviews before our stay and some were good and some not so good. Unfortunanately, our stay was along the lines of "not so good". The hotel itself was just plain "OK". On the surface, the ambiance and general feel of the property was family-friendly and upbeat. The pools were beautiful and the lazy river was nice. The casual resturants were just OK and we were somewhat skeptical of the jerk "chicken! Since the hotel is all inclusive proprety, you must make a reseverations for the 3 "nicer" restuarants. The concierge would flat out betray us and say that there was no space and then 15 minutes later we would talk to somone else and all of a sudden space would be available. (Go figure.) To top it off, the hotel moved our belongings from one room to another without our permission and our daughter's wallet was stolen. The hotel security literally searched our room and made us feel that we were the culprit. It was a horrible experience. Long story short, the hotel did replace our daughter's money but the whole ordeal put a damper on our vacation. We would never stay here again.
