Get what you pay for...
By ,
Sunset takes room reservations but can't keep them. 4 hours until we got a room. The food was the same and not very good. The soda machines all began dying on the 2nd day; never fixed. Maid service was poor - at best. One bar had 'bad tap lines' to the point the beer smelled foul; took 2 days for them to get around to clean them. Pools were clean, beach was clean. No one moves fast there. A request is either ignored or recognized - then ignored. Public bathrooms were horrendous; broken. Their 'fancy' restuarants were a joke. Trying to come off as Gordon Ramsay, ended up being a poorly run Denny's. But for the money, it was peaceful, we got our monies worth in alcohol. Entertainment geared toward children. It was nice to get away but i shouldn't have to be loud to staff to get results (3 times)

Not so good :(
By ,
So this was the first time we have traveled out of the country with our 2 little girls (4 and 7). I was so excited to get away and have a nice family vacation. Our 1st day at the resort was not so good...we got there around noon and we got lucky our room was ready but the room def did not look like the picture. It was so small and nothing to and my husband and I have stayed at many all inclusives in a basic room that have been very nice, but this did not even come close. I dealt with it and we headed to the food area, there was nothing for the kids to really eat, no chicken nuggets, no hot dogs, no grilled cheese, pizza was awful. The food in general was just bad the whole time we were there and we chose this place because it seemed so family oriented. The drinks are around 6 oz so you have to have like 3 or 4 of them to really fulfill your need. All of the other all inclusives we have been to, they at least have a refrigerator that is stocked each day with juice and soda but these were not. So then the pool, we waited 30 minutes for clean towels which by that time I was so tired and so irritated that I was ready to just pack up and leave. However, I went to the manager and expressed my concerns. She was very nice and tried to really accommodate us the rest of the trip, but the whole point is that this is supposed to be a family resort and it did not seem that way at all. The entertainment was geared very much towards adults; the daily activities were geared towards adults. It was very disappointing; however my girls did have a good time which was really all that mattered to me.

Birthday extravaganza
By ,
Upon our arrival we received a warm greeting at check in. We were given refreshing fruit punch during the check in. We arrived at the resort after the lunch buffet but we were still able to enjoy a lovely lunch at the onsite grill. We found the resort to be clean and all staff friendly and personable. The daily planned activities were enjoyable and fun. I throughly enjoyed Reggae Zumba as well as the opportunity to snorkel and canoe in the ocean. The breakfast buffet was good and there are four dining options for dinner which offer a variety of choices . We are planning a return trip to this resort in the very near future. SHOCKER!!
By ,
ALLOW ME TO SAY THIS, I VISIT JAMACIA ANNUALLY!! AND LOVE THE ISLAND!! I HAVE PREVIOUSLY STAYED AT SUNSET BEACH IN MONTEGO BAY AND ENJOYED MY STAY SO MUCH THAT I WANTED TO RETURN. HOWEVER WHEN I ARRIVED, MY ROOM REQUEST WAS DENIED AND HAD TO WAIT 4 HRS FOR AN EMPTY PROMISE THAT I WOULD GET THE ROOM. I WAS TOTALLY SHOCKED!! THE STAFF WASN'T FRIENDLY AND THE ATMOSPHERE SEEMED "DEAD". THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE (SAME MENU EVERY NIGHT) WOW!! AND I FELT LIKE I WAS A BOTHER TO STAFF ON MY VACATION!! MY SUGGESTION MAYBE "new management" or "staff meeting" signed: DISAPPOINTED

The Resort can do better
I would like to say first that this was my first visit to JA, my grandfather place of birth. JA is a beautiful place and the people (a small few them are honestly nice) show two different faces to the visitors (knowing that they're spending money). Sunset Resort and Spa is a 21/2 to 3 star Resort. What I liked about the resort was the day Manager and how she handled problems and her way of communicating. The problem is that we wasn't getting fresh towels, two days without getting them when I went to the front desk and the worker there was offensive and got an attitude (3rd day I was there all this happened) because all through the day I asked for fresh towels and the removal of a cot in my room. I was told repeatedly they there bringing them and so on. Other than that the food wasn't great fruit was either overly ripe or not sweet. The bartenders inside the resort water down the drinks and called me Yo on the 2nd day I was there I told him not to do that, I figure he did thatbecause we were the same color. The waiters there I loved most of all they were totally professional and customer service is what the gave 100 per cent. Overall it was not a bad experience staying there but they are all about the US dollars and you can't use the sauna, you must pay for it and the amenities posted on this site misleads you into believing you can. This place is definitely a family resort if you don't want children around don't go there. I picked the wrong resort to go to. I love kids but I wanted it to be more of an adult nightlife and all the adults was tire by 11:00 and the Resort was dead by then so you had to go out to clubs to have a real adult good time and the clubs cost about the same as US to get in. I advise everyone looking at this resort for a vacation to know exactly what you want and how much want to spend, you get what you pay for. And if you want to be in a family envornment or not. The entertainment was marvelous.

My peace place
By ,
I love Jamaica. The people are warm and friendly. The island is a beautiful paradise. The Sunset Beach is comfortable and very clean; the staff and food are excellent; the beaches immaculate. I have been to Jamaica 6 times and the Sunset Beach the last four times. I will go back again. I also like the location of the hotel. I go to Jamaica to get away and relax. The Sunset Beach is not in the midst of all the action and people, and I love that. It is peaceful and beautiful. The sunsets are magnificent. I haven't been able to afford to go in six years, and I pray that I will be able to go again in the next year or two. I love the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa, and that's where I will stay again. Jamaica, an island paradise with beautiful beaches and countryside; warm and friendly people; a great getaway; my peace place. I highly recommend this destination.

One day visit from a cruise ship
By ,
We spend about 6 hrs. at this lovely resort. Had a great time at the beautiful beach, lazy river, large swimming pools, food is buffet style and above average. Drinks were very good and all this for 60 dollars per person. Two miles from ship or 3 dollars per person by taxi. Try it I know you will like the place if you like all above.

Keep Your Valuables In Your Safe!
By ,
It all began great. We went to Jamaica for the very first time to get married. We went to Sunset Beach Resort & Spa because it seemed nice enough and was close to the airport. It is a family resort, but appeared to be good enough for our wedding and honeymoon. I guess it would have been just fine until our room was burglarized by housekeeping. We were not on the bottom floors and the room was not ransacked and there was no sign of the door being forced in. Housekeeping was the only person in the room and we have no reason to believe otherwise. Nothing of any great value was taken except for my wife’s prescription medicine--medicine she needed. The whole pill bottle was taken out of the bathroom while we were out. We looked all over before calling the front desk. I wish we never bothered to report the crime to them because things went from sad to bad. They sent up a goon squad to interrogate us and then search our room as though we hid the pills and were just saying this for the heck of it. We felt so violated. I asked exactly who was the maid that cleaned our room and they refused to tell me. After the interrogation, room search, and dismissal of our claim they left and said there was nothing that could be done. We were so upset. It is bad enough to be violated and victimized in your own country, but to be in a foreign country and be a victim of a crime is so much worse. What can you do? I called the police and they told me that according to Jamaican Law, they could not set foot on the property unless the hotel called them and allowed them to enter. That is absurd, but I called the front desk and asked that they call the police. The front desk refused to call the police and told me to talk to the day manager tomorrow. This was getting worse and worse in terms of anger. This was to be the best time of our life and we were waiting precious hours with this ordeal and were not being treated like quests but instead we were treated like criminals. I did talk to the day manager the next morning and that was almost as upsetting as being interrogated and my room being searched by the goon squad. He dismissed my claim that we had any medicine stolen by the maid and said we must have left the door open or maybe we left the medicine at home or somewhere. It was absurd. I asked for him to call the police and he refused. The manager did offer to call a doctor to have a prescription filled for us and we could go into town and purchase a new prescription (at our own cost without insurance coverage). And this would take even more of our time left in Jamaica. My wife said not to bother as we were leaving the next day. We made an attempt to enjoy our last day there knowing we’d never return again.

will return again and again
By ,
We have stayed here and been very pleased 4 times and this will be number 5. erh I am taking people with us on this visit March 12, 2011. Have recommended this to a lot of other people, and all have seemed pleased ! My family (son and daughter) have been there multiple times and the son now takes his tribe now. I read a review about this being a Ghetto Experience, I must have missed something ???? Perhaps thes folks should go all out and spend more somewhere else. Always pleased w/ Staff, food, and service of the staff.
