Perfect place to experience New Orleans
By Jon, 4/5/12
We just returned from one of the best vacations ever taken and if you want to experience New Orleans, this is the place to stay! Keith, our host, was attentive and very helpful and will give you insight on how to enjoy this marvelous city. The trolly is right outside the front door and opens the gateway to one of the world's finest cities. The food is spectacular, history abounds and the natives are friendly! You will be just far enough away from the specter of the French Quarter to have private, romantic time but close enough to be there in minutes. We are looking forward to our next visit, See you then, Keith!

Going back in time
By Susan, 2/27/11
This hotel is the secret of the city. It is all what others talk about when speaking of New Orleans. It is an old beauty without any charm over looked. If you are looking for a place that feels like the southern house you wish at home, than this is the place for you. Looking on the outside when pulling up it looks like a tiny place, but as you will learn, once inside the space goes on and on. The floor plan is as unique and as the hotel and it is huge, with many rooms adjacent to the main house. The decor is another thing that drew my attention, the hotel is filled with beautiful New Orleans pictures, printings and chandeliers that makes you wonder how they were able to have such an amazing collection. The same could be said for the rooms, with nothing held back with beautiful antiques. Each room is different in size and location, so each time you stay there you can experience a different atmosphere. There is a courtyard that is nice and nice to relax in. With the hotel located in between two popular restaurants and can be ordered for pickup and enjoyed in the courtyard. The hotel is equipped with wi fi, and also a desk top computer in the common are. The staff is very nice, personnel, and helpful. It has been the perfect location with the street car out the front door taking you back in forth to the quarter, or where ever you want to go, even to the state of the art gym you have access to just across the streets. The price can not be beat, similar hotels that do not offer the same can range up to twice as much. I always stay at the Avenue Hotel along with my extended family love catching up with the staff that's there year after year, so glad we found the place years ago

Worn but Clean, Great Value!
By kesg, 4/13/08
Since it is a converted house, the lay out is a bit strange BUT the housekeeping rivaled that of 4-star hotels. If you don't mind a slightly threadbare comforter and a towel hook that is missing a piece, you can count on cleanliness, new sinks/showers/toilets, and reliable climate control. For the price, this play CANNOT be beat. Streetcar out front takes you straight to downtown (7-10 min ride), or hop in a cab for about $6. Absolutely safe, helpful and kind staff, and great restaurants flanks the hotel. Looking forward to my return.

We got a parking ticket on a special event
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/2/07
We stayed there when a special event was going on and when we got there, the front desk rep. told us that we can park anywhere, because the police dont ticket people on the weekends, so we parked in front of the hotel(on St. Charles Street)because there was no where to park, when we checked in our room we walked back to our car and there was a parking ticket on our car. I would like to say for those who plan to go to Mardi Gras if you want to stay at this hotel, park on Martin Luther king street or on another street, but it is going to be hard to find a parking space because the restaraunts customers park there also, do not park in front of the gree and white house too.

Just what we were looking for
By AngelaR, 8/6/07
This place was exactly what I had in mind when I started planning this little trip. It was a unique hotel with local flair. The room was clean, and so was the bathroom (that's a big deal to me!) It wasn't a very large room, but it was comfortable, besides - this is the kind of city where you should be seeing the sites not stuck up in a hotel! As for the staff, they were all great! There are places to eat within walking distance, but I would recommend driving/cab to the French Quarter (keep in mind we were there in July!)it was inexpensive and quick.

Not at all what the pics show.
By Ghirmaia, 2/27/07
It was my first time visiting New Orleans, and i pick the Avenue Garden Hotel because the rate was really cheap and the pics were nice too. What a rip off, this hotel was so nasty and filty, i even had big gigantic cockroaches in my room. The service was really poor and one of the ladies at the front desk was really rude. I don't recommend anyone to stay at this hotel because you will be really disappointed

Great place to stay for girls getaway
By Kimberly, 1/21/07
The hotel was a great place for a 4 day get-away. The hotel is next door to a fantastic bbq restaurant and short walks to many other wonderful places to eat. The bus line is right in front of the hotel to take you to the French Quarter ($2.50 round trip ride vs. an expensive taxi ride is definitely a plus when staying for several days). Hotel staff were pleasant, room was clean, and any requests were handled quickly. The patio was a great way to sit outside, but it is enclosed by the buildings and didn't really provide any views, but that was okay with us because we just wanted to be out enjoying the 70 degree weather.

How could you not love it?
By david, 9/4/06
I read some mixed reviews here and on Tripadvisor and decided to call the hotel and get information. The gal on the phone was great and offered us a great rate for the weekend ($59.00/ night). We ended up having a fabulous time!! the hotel is located along St. Charles Avenue with so many restaurants around and easy access to the French Quarter (the streetcar still isn't running but they have busses). The room we were in was bright and airy and overlooked the St. Charles. The staff was excellent~ never a frown on their faces. It is definitely a true "New Orleans" stay at the Avenue Garden!
