My fiance and I travel around staying in cabins and this is one of the best we've been to! The area is absolutely beautiful and the alpacas are adorable! The owner also has a great understanding of astronomy and the constellations. He even has a powerful telescope to show the moon, jupiter and whatever constellations are visable at the time (which was AMAZING!). If you forget something (even a wine corcer) he will bring you his own at 10pm without a problem! Each AM breakfast comes in a basket outside the door. There was a notebook above the fireplace where previous guests have signed in- very neat to see what people have said since 2006! There's central air and heat in all the cozy cabins- it was a chilly 53 outside- consistant 72 inside (fireplace light while we were watching satalite TV!) There was a very at home, relaxing feel here- we will be back! I suggest it to everyone!

We liked the location. We did not like the fact that there were dead bugs everywhere. The wall board around the tub is rotting and so dirty my wife would not get into the tub. The worst of it though was finding a open box of prescription vaginal cream under our bed from a person who had stayed in our cabin 6 weeks prior. Guess that says it all about how well they clean these cabins. We wrote the owners a letter and got no response other than to let me know they charged me the $231 for our second night of stay. No apology for ruining our anniversary weekend. Do not stay here!

Galena Log Cabin Getaway and Adventure Creek Alpaca Farm is one of the best kept secrets in the Midwest! Located in historic Galena, Illinois, this family friendly vacation center has all the charm of early America (the Abraham Lincoln era). But once inside, these surprisingly modern equipped cabins feature a "no maintenance" real fireplace, satellite TV and radio, whirlpool bath, microwave oven, refrigerator and skylight bathroom. Many of the cabins have an upstairs loft with a second bed, if the family is coming, although the cabins are well suited for a perfect romantic getaway. Outside is a live alpaca farm, cousins of the llama, that serves as a fun petting zoo, of sorts. Add to that the quaint little country gift store, where the owners are more than friendly, and this place is a year-round wonder. Traditional or continental breakfast is available on various days in the gift store, and the vast hiking area makes for a complete package. One of our absolute favorite places to visit!

Upon driving up you felt like going back in time. From the outside the accomodations are a little deceiving, but once you get inside you are greeted with comfort and amenities. The log cabin we stayed in had a loft, fireplace and jacuzzi bath. Very clean. You feel like you are out in the wilderness but in total comfort. Great experience. We were there many years ago and have been wanting to return. Very unique.
