Grand Hotel Aminta, Sorrento

The Aminta was a lovely, pleasant hotel to stay in. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean, the pool was sufficiently sized. We were staying in the Villa Aminta part of the hotel and this was only a 2 minute walk from the swimming pool and had a large balcony overlooking the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius which was lovely. We did have a few bug bears with the hotel which weren't big enough to ruin our stay but would probably mean we wouldn't go back. The food at the hotel wasn't great - the breakfast especially was very disappointing. A very limited selection of food for both breakfast and lunch and none of it was particularly healthy. We knew when we booked our stay that the hotel was quite far from the centre of Sorrento but were told there was a bus every half an hour into town. This is not true - the bus runs between every hour and three hours whcih made getting around very restrictive. Cabs in and out of the centre cost 25 euros which was a bit pricey. While the hotel was lovely, I'm sure there are just as nice in a more convenienct location. Our only other problem was the noise of the Villa. You could hear absolutely everything from the cleaners in the hallway to the room upstairs which made a peaceful sleep virtually impossible. We were woekn up at 7am every morning by the cleaners which got very frustrating towards the end of our stay. Other than these things though, Aminta was a nice hotel.

very spacious around the whole of the hotel and terraces comfortable chairs, and sun loungers which you were able to book.excellent bar service and friendly staff. good choice of food. staff at reception were always so helpful and friendly, and the courtesy bus was great and free. great pool area but large pool very deep with no shallow end. beautiful views from all round the hotel. thought a bit more in the way of entertainment would have been good.

great holiday booked at the last minute never been to sorrento before but will make a return visit to the same hotel. the staff are helpfull, bar staff very good on advice as to where to go for meals. the curtesy bus service into sorrento takes about eight minutes and run on time, nice views of the bay on the journey last bus back 11-15pm which is about right as the shops close at 10-00pm ish just time for a last glass of wine, then back for a night cap and reflect on a great day with fellow guests.

This hotel was the nicest we stayed at in Italy. The hotel was clean spacious, with excellent views and a quality restaurant. The staff was very accomodating and pleasant and made the stay enjoyable. It was a nice day so we took a long walk to the city. Don't try this if you have feet or heart problems or you dont like walking up hills. But the hotel was a great value and I would definitely stay here again in the future.

The Aminta is half way up a mountain and to say the views are stunning is an understatement. The hotel itself is luxurious, the staff courteous and the food better than any package holiday I've ever been on.To prove a point, the blind opera singer Andre Bochelli(sorry if the spelling is wrong) stayed one night when we were there. If I went again I would ensure I got a room with a balcony as the window in our room was a little too high to see out of. A bus is provided to get residents to and from Sorrento town(an absolute necessity for most people although there is a track which is easy enough to walk down). One night we watched an electric storm over Naples and Vesuvious which was fabulous. Trips from Sorrento are easily made on public transport(incredibly cheaper than going on an organised trip. Just go to the railway station for Pompei/Naples or the bus station for Amalfi/Ravello (you can come back on an open boat if you choose). A local bus goes from the hotel to St Agata higher up the mountain.Go to the harbour and book yourself on a trip to Capri or Ischea(once on Ischea a local bus takes you on a round trip through the mountain villages for approx two english pounds. Dont miss out on this holiday.

I reserved a room for three, but upon arrival, I was told that the reservation was for only two. I had to pay an extra $36 per night for our child. Every thing had an extra charge.. want eggs with breakfast, an extra charge. Want a towel or lounge by the pool, an extra charge. The location wasn't bad.. a little out of town, but a great view. The breakfast was laid out nicely, but the food was only so-so. I'm guessing that there are better choices in Sorrento.
