Hótel Borg was first opened in 1930 and underwent a major renovation between 1993 and 1997. The hotel is located in the heart of Reykjavík, just across the the House of Parliament (Alþingi), and within a short walking distance of most attractions in the city centre. The Hotel has a special place in Icelandic history. Its location, as well as its prewar style, have made it a favoured dwelling place for statesmen and celebrities. Christian X, king of Denmark (and Iceland at the time), Marlene Dietrich, Anthony Hopkins, Ella Fitzgerald and William Faulkner, to name a few, have all stayed at Hótel Borg.
