terrible staff
I am writing this review because I have never been more offended by a hotel staff, and possibly ANYONE, than I have by the eastgate hotel. In the past I have stayed here and referred more than one visitor, including my mother and her friends, to the eastgate hotel and had good experiences. However, last weekend I was hosting a group of visitors who were of asian descent and spoke english as a second language. When I accompanied them to the hotel I could not believe the amount of disrespect that the concierge staff treated them with. Eye rolling ensued, and the staff was generally unhelpful and acted exasperated by having to put any effort into communicating with them.
The next morning we were eating breakfast, and one of us ordered a meal that consisted of eggs, bacon, and toast. The plate arrived without eggs, and when we asked why, the waitstaff answered that they had simply ran out, and that they were going to charge us FULL price anyways. First of all, it would have been nice had they come back and said "sorry, we are out of eggs, would you like something else," because who wants to eat toast and bacon without eggs; and second, it was equally ridiculous to attempt to charge full price. However, this transgression was relatively minor and we could have let it slide, save for what happened next.
At this point, one of my asian companions piped up with a perfectly polite, reasonable objection to this policy, which the waitstaff responded to by: staring blankly at us, turning, and walking away while he was still in mid sentence. I was just shocked. My companion looked at me helplessly, and was very obviously embarrassed. Now, having been there I can tell you that what I experienced was truly an air of contempt for my party, but whether or not you agree with my calling this racism (which i do not do lightly), this was just INCREDIBLY RUDE. A terrible experience, and the eastgate will not get any more of my business.
