Burgundy Hotel, Paris

The Burgundy is an older hotel that felt very Parisian to me. It's charming and marked with rich colors, but it's definitely old. The elevator was just big enough to fit two people and two bags of luggage, very snug. The carpets were stained and outdated. It could use an overhaul, but it was still nice. The room was much bigger than I expected it would be, after all the horror stories I'd read about Paris hotel rooms being the size of closets. We had a king size bed with a desk area and a small eating area beside our terrace doors. No real terrace actually, but there were doors! It was nice to open them up and look up the street toward the Madeleine metro station. The hotel employees were very helpful, providing everything from adapters to irons to wine-bottle corking services and even some utensils so we could dive into our take-out pizza. (Yes, pizza in Paris.) The bathroom here was great. It was a huge bathroom with a big tub that only had a small glass panel on one side, just big enough to block the water from splashing out. The entire bathroom became your personal spa when taking a shower. Kinda fun. The buffet breakfast, not so great. It was bordering on bad -- unless you really enjoy watery eggs and a selection of pastries that you could get much better around the corner. Even better, take the train or walk the 20 minutes to Louvre and get the buffet breakfast at the upscale hotel across the street. (I think they called it the American breakfast because we all love our buffets so much.) Sit outside on the patio while you enjoy the extra thick french toast and just relax. Or do as the Parisians do, skip the big breakfast, and order two croissants and a cafe instead.

We were placed in this hotel while our hotel fixed the air condition of our room... the location was not bad, close to latin quarters, the museums, all walking distance. HOWEVER, the service was TERRIBLE, front desk was SO RUDE. The whole placed smelled like cigarrette so bad it looked they never washed the carpets. Our experience in Paris started really bad but when we got transferred to the DUminy it was changed. thank God, I will recommend this hotel only if you have no other choice! and I am not a picky person!~

This little hotel in the 1st arrondissement among giants such as The Ritz is a steal! Although it lacks the glitz and glamour of its neighbors, it is clean and comfortbale. The bathrooms are large, and there is plenty of closet space. We were there on some extremely hot days (90 degrees), and there is no air conditioning, so it got quite hot. But this is typical of Paris hotels. The location is perfect--just blocks from The Louvre and River Seine, as well as the metro just down the street. We were extremely pleased at the value for our money!
