Hotel Quito, Quito

This hotel has slightly above average rooms with wonderful views especially on the city side but security is lacking. Most rooms do NOT have a safe to store valuables. Reports of stolen money, personal items and credit card numbers abound. It took us several minutes of arguing with people at the front desk before we were able to get a room with a safe. The breakfast buffet is excellent. There are many thefts and robberies in Quito. Watch your luggage and backpacks even in the hotel lobby. Do not carry cash in Quito.

The staff of the Hotel Quito are extremely professional, yet every bit as much friendly and accomodating. Our group ata breakfast and dinner every day for 12 days there, and the food is delicious!!! My room was on the sixth floor overlooking the pool, and on a clear morning, a snow-covered volcano could be seen just on the horizon from my window. The pool is very clean, the fitness center has everything you need to keep up your fitness routine while away from home. Personally, I have not one single negative thing to say about Hotel Quito. I would stay there again in a heartbeat : )

Nice place but my visa credit card was compromised in one March 07' night to the tune of $1800.00. I complained to management but never heard anything back. My credit card company covered the charges. I would take plenty of cash and not trust the system.

You must book a room with a view of the valley if you are going to stay in this hotel. Really, there is no other reason stay there. The pool is cold, the rooms are mediocre and the desk staff is difficult. The staff in the bar, restaurant and casino were very pleasant, and the food was good. They even do special food orders for finicky children (at a price - $6 for grilled ham and cheese sandwich, no side). We received cheaper than advertised room rates (in 2005-06)for our two rooms by booking through an Ecuadorian travel agent, but had to argue (in Spanish) with the desk staff each of the 4 times we stayed that the breakfast buffet WAS included in our room-price. Personally, I believe the staff is not accustom to the higher service standards of better hotels; they are poorly trained, rather than being simply arrogant.

The staff at the Hotel Quito treated us as though we were beneath the hotel. They mis-charged us and refused to reimburse us when we discovered the error. In fact, they were laughing at the mistake, as though they has succeded in getting something out of us - point to them. Don't go to this hotel. No matter what they promise, they are in the tourism business to cheat people. The location also is poor.

I've stayed at this hotel more than once, and I have always received excellent customer service. I was always greated by ma'am, and someone was always attentive. The one thing I did notice in Ecuador in general is that if you ask your questions politely, you will get a nice and very responsive answer in return. I love this hotel; I would most definitely recommend it!

Pros.: The landscape from the back side of the hotel is very beautiful. It is an excellent place for holidays and very well located, in the north of the city. Cons.: This is not a good hotel if you can not live without an internet connection. The only signal is wireless, its power is very low and is not available at the rooms, only at the lobby.

Others have written well about the hotel so I'll not repeat. I just want to leave a comment about security. Whilst staying at the Hotel Quito we had two pairs of binoculars and a pair of running shoes stolen from our room. The person staying in the room next to us lost another pair of shoes and a very expensive pair of bifocal glasses. We only realised that both rooms had been robbed after we left - had we realised sooner we'd all have kicked up a lot more fuss. Thank goodness all our (more normal) valuables were in the safe. Others have commented on the rudeness of the front desk staff - I'd agree. And since when did a cashiers desk have no money so you can't do any currency exchange. Must have been spectacular when it was new but once you are past the fabulous lobby it's all a bit 'travellodge' these days.
