Victoria House, San Pedro

What's not to like about this place. Our family has enjoyed this resort for many trips and continue to come back time and time again. We usually stay in one of the private homes within the resort. The staff is without a doubt one of the best at any place we have stayed including The Virgin Islands and Costa Rica. We were there in 2010 with Tropical Storm Alex came thru and the staff at the resort had everything under control and we didn't worry about anything.. I find the price to be very affordable and much less than some of the trips we take in the US. Very relaxing and you can do as much or as little as you want and spend as little or as much as you want. The place is first class all the way and they try and please everyone and make their stay enjoyable. My family and I will go back many more times in the future. We will be visiting again in August of this year and will be bringing family friends for their first trip. It will not be the last time they come I am sure of that.. Thank you Victoria House and your great staff can't wait to see you soon.. I am not sure why this shows on the website that I only gave it 4 to 4.5 stars. I gave it 5 stars on all services, cleanliness, location and value. So hopefully the edit will show the true rating of 5 stars that I gave the Resort

Talk about casual luxury! No shoes required, the friendliest staff, most delicious down-home and simple Carib. food. Fish all day and the kitchen will cook your catch, the bartender will make ceviche while you shower and change for dinner (again no shoes!).

Victoria House is a beautiful resort located a couple of miles south of San Pedro. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The rooms were well maintained and very clean. The food was excellent, but pricy. The bar staff served great drinks and were also very friendly. After hearing that we were on our honeymoon, the front desk staff upgraded our plantation house room for free (which was very nice but a bit small) to the two bedroom house at the resort which had its own pool. The downside of Victoria House is that I would not recommend it to anybody on any kind of budget. It is a very expensive place to stay and is pretty far from town, requiring a $5 US taxi ride or rent a golf cart for approx. $55 US/day.

Victoria House is by far the nicest hotel on the island. We stayed in a plantation room which is a little small, but still beautiful and victorian/carribean. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were clean and well kept. A/C works great, which is a big deal as most places in Belize don't have it. No TV/Phones/Internet available in the rooms which for us was relaxing, but could be a little tough if you have kids or get bored easily. The staff is great and friendly. By the end of our trip we knew everyone by name and they knew us too. Gorgeous beach and pool on the hotel grounds, although there are a lot of flies during the day. Bring a can of 'Off' and you will be a happy camper. The food and atmosphere at the hotel restaurants are great, but the prices are a little on the steep side and the food could use a little more variety. Going out to eat is a must, and there are a ton of really great local restaurants that are both cheap and tasty. Going in to town is a lot of fun, and although it is a little intimidating at first, everyone is really nice and so many of the locals are retired americans and europeans that you really get a good mix of culture. Overall, this is a little more adventurous than a Sandals or Club Med style vacation, but the location is beautiful and definitely worth a try. A downside of Victoria House (and almost all the hotels in San Pedro) is that they are at the end of a very very very bumpy dirt road with about 4 inches of mud on it, which is only about 2 miles long, but takes about 10 minutes to drive down. Sometimes you avoid going into town just to avoid the bumpy road. Renting a golf cart is cheap (about $10) and definitely better than riding a bike or walking. Taxi's are also only $5US and in my opinion a great bargain. This would be an ideal place for newlyweds, couples, and families. The nightlife is pretty tame (limited to a few bars and clubs which are nice but nothing spectacular).

Victoria House, without a doubt the best resort on the island. Tropical caribbean paradise getaway, without the Cancun hustle and bustle. Great staff, food, and drinks. The pool and beach area were maticulously manicured daily. Complete rest, relaxation, and privacy. The resort only has about 31 rooms, so there will never be alot of people there. Lots of day activities to choose from. We stayed in the Rainforest Suite (Honeymoon Suite, one of the best rooms on the property). Please book several months in advance as the rooms fill up quickly!! Went into San Pedro at night as they have some really good seafood restaurants. Swimming with the nurse sharks and sting rays at Shark-Ray Alley is a must. I highly recommend for any couple looking for a secluded, romantic getaway. We went in July 2005 and got evacuated out due to Hurricane Emily, and ended up at a Jungle Resort, Jaguar Paw, in the Belizean Jungle and Mayan Mountains. All was arranged by Victoria House. An unbelieveable, adventurous trip. We're going back in April 2006 for another taste of tropical paradise!!!!!!!

The moment we arrived at Victoria House we were greeted in a warm and helpful manner and that attitude was consistent throughout our stay. The first impression set us up for a delightful time. The room was beautiful and thoughtful in it's furnishings, the staff intuitive, quaility of food and service superb, immaculate pool and grounds. We could have been content just resting my eyes on the blue on blue on blue of the ocean against the white manicured beach from that vantage point the whole time. It was hard leaving that environment to go play in all the fun recreation San Pedro has to offer. Ray Bowers & DeLinda Austin
